Hey Guys, need some recommendations on what I can do to get my rifle cycling better. It shoots but doesn’t cycle consistently. I have a 14.5” 300 blackout match barrel that I bought from Rainier arms about 5 years ago and it’s got a carbine length gas system on it and I’ve got a 2.8 oz buffer. I’m seeing that everyone these days is going with pistol length gas system so not sure if I’m screwed or not. Been out of the game for a while now and getting back into it. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

What ammo are you firing ?... Subsonic ?
Maybe the ammo is a little on the weak side for break in ?

You say it doesn't cycle consistently, failure to eject ? failure to lock back on a empty mag ? Failure to pick up the next round ?

...more details on the exact symptoms occurring, type of ammo used, type of buffer system in use, etc. would be helpful to determine what might be the issue(s). A 14.5" barrel w/carbine gas system would normally work. I have an early 16" w/carbine gas (Brownells/Satern) that has worked without issues since assembled back around 2013. Pistol gas is considered "optimal" for "off the shelf" reliability in retail arena, but it isn't truly necessary.

Had the same issue with mine. Pistol length gas tube. Switched to and adj gas block and tuned it to the rounds I am using. Works fine. As mentioned, buffer weight is also a consideration.
