Just wondering if we could get a "3 best rifles in each price point" thread like the scope thread from scout. It seemed to help cut down on the "which one" threads and im sure others like myself would greatly appreciate the insight. Not sure how to group customs since the costs vary so greatly. Just an idea. I may be nuts though.

I know what he's referencing. He's saying to rank the top three rifles in various brackets. He failed to lay out the brackets though. 0-500, 501-1200, 1201-2500, 2500+ for example. So for under 500 I would say
1. r700 varmint with rebate for 400
2. Ruger American predator for 400
3. Savage whatever it numbers it would be.
And so on.
Rifles are so much more customizable compared to scopes though it's more of a shifting scale.

I feel like in theory this could be a good thread but someone is going to say "well I can build the world's best custom for the price of X rifle. Not to mention is this bolts only? Or semi as well? As mentioned before, the scope thread worked because to a certain extent there are only so many different quality scopes vs the nearly infinite amount of good rifles that can be put together.

Covert is as Covert does.

Plenty of good feedback on the scout site.

Walt Willis I am not! I'll tell you from the jump that my marksmanship skills suck! You won't see me post pics of the groups I've shot because I don't own a camera with a wide angle lense. But I guess I did leave it kinda open. I just figured most of us had seen the old scope thread. But yes, like Spife said. Brackets along the lines he laid out. I posted it in the bolt rifle section so I didn't think that needed a whole lot of explanation. As I said in my original post, with customs or even remage setups, price is dependent on parts. I was just trying to weed out some of the "which rifle should I buy" threads. Maybe we could just focus on factory rifles in factory configurations. And again, maybe I'm just nuts.

Don't be shy...post those groups. I don't think it would be a surprise to find out not everyone on here is Carlos Hathcock.

If you shoot it own it, at least you tried and were willing to post it.

Perhaps someone on here will recognize a problem in your posted group and offer the advice that shrinks things to the point you use a macro lens.

My vote is the best rifle is a used one off the classifieds or Gunbroker and because of that it fudges all the price breaks by putting nicer featured rifles lower on the scale than they should be by depreciation.

Ok how about this. As no one wants to jump.
You listed some bottom bracket rifles
so next bracket up.
Ruger precision
the new savage
the new tikka
and throw in the fn
all in the 1200 range give or take.
After that it takes a jump and go with either so sako or ballista or the like and they are priced with the customs so it's all up to you from there.
