I have a .308 Remington 700 that I bought off gunbroker 3 years ago when I was 17. I called Remington and they said the action is made in 1964. When I bought the rifle, the guy that owned before it was supposedly an old gunsmith. The gun was being sold with the help of the gunsmiths friend that had a gunbroker account. The stock that was on it was an old wood stock that had a piece of wood glued on the bottom that resembles a modern benchrest rifle stock. The trigger has a crisp 2 lb trigger pull
The heavy barrel that is on it looks to be an older model that has the same bluing fade as the action. I think the barrel looks somewhat like a varmint contour with a larger end toward the action with a slight tapper down towards the end while still keeping an overall heavy barrel.
The accuracy with my handloads appear to be incredible for an older rifle as you can see in the pictures on the link. I shot 175gr. Sierra Matchking with 40gr. of Varget powder and Federal Match brass. There are (2) 3-shot grouping.
I replaced the stock that was on it with one that I ordered from HS Precision. The scope is a 4.5-14x40 Tactical Leupold.
If anyone knows anything about this barrel or where this could have came from I would love to know. Leave your thoughts. Thank You!
