my dad passed in 96 and left me a Remington Model 40x. Chambered in 6mm. Been in the safe ever since. I was always scare to shoot it as a kid cause it looked scary. Got it out the other day and cleaned it and decided to shoot it. Still zeroed at 150. my only concern is the trigger is extremely light and makes me feel a little uneasy. any info on what type it is and how to adjust would be helpful. Also, i cannot find a bolt release so that i can break it down and really detail it

It looks like an early 40 br trigger.
It has a trigger shoe on it. Which can be removed.
Do a google search on the trigger, you can find adjustment instructions.
Best bet is to take action out of stock to confirm what trigger it is and post some pictures here to confirm.

I did a little research.
It seems to match an early hart bench rest trigger made for Remington by Hart.
Look at bottom of trigger at the screws seem to match yours.
One of the best made.

man thanks for the quick reply’s. i knew this would be the place to come for answers. i hope to learn more about this rifle as it was one of my dads favorites. Hopefully tomorrow i can get it broken down to learn more about it

Nice looking old rifle, quite a treasure to be left by your dad. Any idea what he used it for?
Just targets. He was an avid shooter. He always told us kids that he made a deal with God, that if he made it out of Vietnam that he would never kill again unless he was hungry or in danger. He taught us to shoot at a very young age and it has stuck with me.
