OK, so I've reached the conclusion that most cleaning kits are not so hot. As such, can you help me put together a good one for my first ar10. I have looked at tipton's cleaning rods which look nice. Tipton also has a brush kit and I have looked at the losso brushes too. Am I better off buying everything individually or buying one of the bigger kits and just tossing the cleaning rods that come with it. Also, with a carbon fiber cleaning rod is the bore guide still a necessity? Thanks.

Re: Help me put together a good cleaning kit

I like Deweys cleaning equipment - made in the USA. I do use Tiptons "Best Cleaning Cradle" good for securing the rifle while maintaining it. I couldnt find a US made cradle that was as adaptable. I use Possum Hollow bore guides that I bought through Sinclair's site. The benefit I find with bore guides is they keep slop from getting places you dont want it - get one with a solvent port. I was better off buying my gear piecemeal rather than kitted.

I've come to a point where I am comfortable only pulling patches and Hoppes 9 through the bore. I wipe the bolts and internals down with wet patches or plastic brush as needed.

I just made a lengthier post regarding my cleaning routine a couple of posts down concerning cleaning a GAP-10 rifle. I buy good gear but have become less obsessive about my cleaning.
