Help me put together my first long/extreme range rifle

I’ve been watching Tiborasaurus Rex’s video series for a while and want to get into long range shooting/hunting. I’m hoping to make a mile shot in the next year or two.

I’ve been stuck on the AXMC. Is his a bad idea for a first set up for someone who’s never shot past 500m and never even heard of a firing solution before a month ago?

Also, is a precision rifle that pricey something you’d purchase used? I see a set up here used quite discounted.

I really like the interchangeable barrel so I can shoot my stockpile of .308 at the range that only goes 300m and not waste $5/rnd Lapua.

AXMC or something else? Obviously it’s a massive investment for a first bolt action rifle.

Can't speak to the AXMC specifically, but I'm a big fan of the AI chassis system, it's solid. After looking at the AXMC I decided to build a 300WM with a Rem 700 receiver and the AICS AX 2.0 chassis. Happy to provide more info if it would help.

if you can afford it, do it. you'll have the rifle forever and likely never upgrade unless you get bored.

don't forget to leave room of the budget for quality glass for that thing. it will deserve the best, esp for 1 mile

Rex just repeats information that can be found in military handbooks. Everyone looks good behind video editing. Why not compete to prove what he is selling? Many of his videos show poor execution of fundamentals... Watch how bad he flinches in many of his videos.

Would this be a good deal for me instead of buying new then purchasing the extra stuff like mags and .308 conversion or am I better buying new? I’ve never purchased a second or third hand firearm before. Kind of weary.

I have bought 3 used AI I still have two of them. A good friend wanted the AW I had otherwise I would still have it.

IMHO you can pick up an AIAX in 338 for a really good price. You can buy the barrel vice and action wrench along with the 308 conversion and glass for about what an MC cost. You will not have quick change capability but if you only shoot 338 a couple times a year, I can't see that being a problem. YMMV

Not sure if someone else got it or if he posted that for me. I’m trying to get the rest of the money together. I had another 3 months of saving planned before this purchase but it seems like a good deal
