Hi All,

As the subject suggests, I am going to be in the market for a new rifle in 2011. I want a new rifle predominantly for use as a range toy, possible tactical rifle matches and maybe long range varminting. I also simply want something new for my collection. My local range is 300 yards. I am willing to travel a reasonable distance for longer range work. I am located in NJ.

Here is what I have for rifles thus far:

1) Custom built AICS in .308, 26 in Bartlein barrel, Nighforce 12X46 BR scope with NP-2DD reticle
2) Custom built AR-15 in .204 Ruger. 24 inch upper from White Oak Armament. Mega Machines lower with Magpul PRS stock. Trijicom Accupoint 5-20 Scope
3) Stag Arms AR-15 in .223. White Oak Armament 18 inch SPR barrel. Burris 1-4 XTR Scope. I use this for USPSA matches.
4) Rock River Arms AR-15 with 16 inch barrel. Eotech reflex scope.
5) Stag Arms AR-15 in 6.8 SPC. Magpul PRS Stock. Leupold 4.5 X 14 Scope
6) Savage .22 rifle with Bushnell Elite 3X9 Scope.
7) Alexander Arms .50 Beowulf with Trijicon 1-4 scope.

I have been thinking about buying a Eliseo tube gun in 6.5 X 47 Lapua. However, I am also thinking I don't have an AR-10 in .308. Another choice might be an AR-15 in 6.5 Grendel.

I am open to suggestions. I will also post this in the bolt action section.

One final piece of info. I do reloasd my own ammo.

Thanks for any feedback.

Chris

Been fighting the urge for either 6.5 AR or a new piece of glass. . . Seems odd both of those things are about the same price, but its the way of the world.

If you "need" a new AR. . . A .260/6.5 AR from GAP is pretty hard to beat. . Not to mention ridiculous value retention.

You can't have 4 AR15 variants and no 10s. . . Sounds like you have a hole to be filled. Also didn't see GAP on there anywhere. Two birds with one stone.

Re: Help me spend some $$$$ on a new rifle

I'm with the GAP .260/6.5 CM opinion. Another one to consider is JP's LRP in .260. You get the left side charging handle which is a phenomenal advancement in the AR10 platform, imo. And since you used "$$$$", I'm assuming cost isn't a (big) factor.

Check out Mike's Gun Sales and suppressors. They have a wickedly accurate 308 platform AR series.Around the same price as a REPR OR LMT MWS, but will shot circles around these platforms.

Re: Help me spend some $$$$ on a new rifle

I was thinking along the 6.5 Creedmoor or Grendel too but realized you don't have a shotgun...so I vote for a Benelli Super Eagle or M4, or Remington 1170, just in case you want to do 3 gun comps.

If your looking for "long range" how about the Cheytac M200?

Re: Help me spend some $$$$ on a new rifle

Just picked up a Rock River LAR 8 standard A4 20 inch barrel, last night.

It was a toss up between that and a DPMS with a 26 inch stainless bull barrel. There are advantages to both guns. Not sure I made the right choice. I guess I will find out.

I know that getting an A10 variant was a good decision though. It fills the gap between my AR 15 and .308 bolt. Got to cover all bases.

Re: Help me spend some $$$$ on a new rifle

Well I've been a big fan of the 6.5 Grendel or .264lbc cartridges for awhile but I didn't reload so it wasn't really an option. But now that I'm going to start reloading I figured I deserved one for my Christmas gift to myself. That and I saw the awesome deal Scott had going so I got in on the group buy that Specialized Dynamics had/has going, it ends real soon here. Scott was offering a hell of a deal and I just had to jump on it. I have been a fan of the Grendel for awhile now and this was just too sweet to pass up on. Can't wait to get my hands on it, I plan on it being a coyote killin machine. It also bridges the gap between my .300WM bolt gun that's on the way and my .223 AR that I use right now for coyotes.

6.5 Grendel gas gun for LR Tactical?

Hmmm. I can't say I've seen it at a LR tactical match. I wonder why? Granted, you don't see many gas guns at all. If you want to buck that trend, a gas .243 or .260 or 6.5 CM or .308 would be a better bet. I know plenty of folks that jumped on the band wagon in 3gun hoping to make major. They are all shooting .223 today, accepting minor (or went all the way to HeMan).
