So I took my recently built Remington to the range today for the first time since the build. Took a 700 adl and put it in a choate tactical stock and ptg dbm bottom metal. Took it to the range today and had 2 problems. Help with either would be greatly appreciated!

Problem 1- AICS mag won't feed
Filled it with 10 rounds, and first bullet got stuck on the feed ramp. I know this problem is expected, so how have you all modified the feed lips to facilitate feeding? Detailed information on modifying them would be a huge help! Rather not break a 70 dollar magazine!

Problem 2- light primer strikes...?
So about 2 weeks ago, I took the rifle to the range and shot 23 rounds of hornandy steel match I bought. Got to the range today, pulled the box back out, and had 27 rounds of the same ammo left. First two misfired, didn't go bang. Shot both again, didn't go bang. Put them aside, shot a few, they all went bang. Last 6 rounds in the box, did not go bang. I've done a couple things to my bolt lately, but all before I shot the first half of this box two weeks ago. Jb weld bolt handle got put on 3 weeks ago, but that wouldn't have anything to do with my firing pin. I did pull the firing pin assembly to polish the camming face of the bolt lift, aka the bolt lift DIY from this forum. When I had the bolt apart, I did wipe the factory grease off the firing pin spring, and not having any grease, put oil on there instead... Could this be my problem? I also had to shorten an action screw when I put the action in the stock because of bolt interference, could this be a culprit? Or did I just get a crap box of ammo? This problem worries me, so help here is definitly appreciated!
Thanks yall!

Just read alot of guys on here have to adjust the fees lips on their mags so I thought it was normal. And it shot FGMM fine but It seemed to me like it should have enough force on the firing pin to set anything off. Granted I might have just gotton a dud box

Im assuming if it is sitting too low in the stock the bolt would hit the magazine before hitting the round and thus not feed..... If it is sitting out, it would go over the top of the round.

Is it only getting stuck on the feed ramp on the full mag?... could it, the DBM, be sitting uneven? Sitting further out the stock at the front and further in at the back and thus allowing the round to be pushed into the feed ramp?

If the only round not being chambered is the first on a full mag you can slightly modify the mag. You would just need to open the front of the lips, slightly, so that when the round is being pushed out of the mag it can start climbing up the feed ramp.

I had similar problems when I had to convert 308 AICS mags to allow 300wsm.

Rebel:

While I really can't tell you exactly why you are having light firing pin strikes, I can tell you there is a really high probability it has to do with whatever you did when you took it apart. When looking to solve almost any problem you go back to the last thing you jacked with. In this case it would be when you took your bolt apart. I would definitely re-strip it, inspect, relube (with proper grease or oil - whatever it calls for) and reassemble.
Hope you get it worked out.

Got lithium grease on the bolt, although I still think it was bad ammo. Won't be buying hornandy steel match again. But the stock and bottom metal I'm going to take to a smith in the area that is well recommended. Hopefully they don't empty my wallet to get me a working DBM.

My problem seems similar to what you described. If my mag were any higher, the bolt would catch on the back of it.. In 10rd mags, at least the first 5 were very difficult to feed. I ended up filing and polishing back about the front quarter of an inch of the lips and it now feeds perfectly. That metal is much harder than I imagined it would be.

Who did the inlet job on the Choate for the dbm? I've never had a rem action and a ptg dbm not feed reliably. Especially 308. There is no need for modification. The only mods done to aics magazines are for off caliber rounds we try making work in a 308 designed magazine. I'd definitely look into it being fitted properly. And also as said earlier recheck the bolt. Remingtons firing pins hit pretty hard usually and should set off those Hornady steels no problem.

Bought it from combat stocks but pretty sure it came inletted from choate. Doesn't even feed right with just the supplied pillars though, so I'm not sure what the deal is. And the action has never done that with any ammo, but like I said, it shot the first half of that box fine. I think it must have just been duds.

Well, cant comment on the magazine issues , but a possible cause of the misfires could be that the bolt handle needs inletting a little deeper in the stock. I had that issue with a wooden bdl stock after putting a sps .308 in it. just a thought.
