ok putting together a dedicated suppressed rifle, as in rarely with be shot without it attached

best barrel lenght thinking 20" max
CAL will be 243 running hot 105gr bullets

group buy for AAC can, but no 6mm, is that a big deal?
does it need to be 6mm or will 7.62 work just as well

DO ya gain any fps via free bore function of can?
looking to go as short as possible but still no worse than 308 from a 26" @ 1k so looking to run inside 30MOA drop @ 1k

MY QL is not loaded right now
@2.870 105 berg VLD or JLK
can someone give me 1k drop for 16-20" barrels

If the 30 cal can is no issue then AAC CYCLONE-K on a 18" barrel is looking pert good

Gotta move pert quick for group buy but need to be more informed first, suppressors are not my strong point

TIA

Re: HELP!! suppressor info

You'll be fine with the .30, that's what most people do.

You may get a little freebore boost, but not enough to make a difference.

Not sure about the 18" .243, but I'm sure you've seen Lowlight's recent thread here:
http://snipershide.com/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Main=125841&Number=1375110

A 18" .260 took 8.8 mils, or 30.25 moa, to get to 1K, so you should be in the neighborhood. Somebody else will have to say for sure on that one.

Re: HELP!! suppressor info

You can also use a 6.8spc suppressor (.277).

I would go as lightweight as possible. But that's just me. I'd spend MY money on a Titanium Gemtech Sandstorm .30 thread on before I'd go with anything AAC currently has out.

But I like short, lightweight, quiet guns.

BJ, I chickened out, I'm having SAS cut my .308 to 20". I'd have done the 17" thing if it were a nice custom tube, but I'm worrying about getting the velocity I want from that factory tube. It's not a particularly fast barrel as is. Not sure what his turnaround time is.

Arghhh. How much would it take for you to try the 17" for 6 months? You really should trust me on this...

Re: HELP!! suppressor info

Do you know the velocity numbers for a factory .308 barrel and 175's at 17"? I'm going to have to shoot that rifle at the next Practical Marksman's Challenge, and don't want to have a big velocity disadvantage- I know a couple of guys there are running 155's at 3050 already. Granted, most of the shots are medium range (<500 or so), but they like to throw in a some longer shots, and one a hair over 1100. I doubt it's too late to change my mind, I'm just having a hard time deciding on the perfect balance of maneuverability vs velocity.

Re: HELP!! suppressor info

I honestly don't feel a .308 is a 1k weapon. There are better tools for that job. Can it work? Yes. But why not use the right tool for the job? Keep in mind, I don't shoot matches. And those I talk to aren't really doing that either.

A 17" .308 will do everything you need to do inside of 800.

I've got a chrono that works. If you want to run some numbers sometime. I've got a .223ai I need to wring out so it would be a win win. Let me know.

Maybe you should run it for a while at 20" and I'll meet up with you and let you run a shorter rig.

I think I might do this, when I get it back I'll let you know and we can run them both over a chrono. I can always chop it shorter.

The next PMC is going to be .308 only, and this is my only .308, so I'll be shooting it. I'm interested to see the .223ai, I want to build one of those at some point.

Sorry for the hijack, Karl, back to your regularly scheduled program. Anybody got velocity data on an 18" .243?
