hello all,

Ordering parts to build my first long"ish" range rifle with my father. Its a Remington 700 sps varmint. The scope we are going to purchase is the Vortex Viper HS-T 6-24x50mm. The base I think we are going to get is the seekins 0 MOA (we will be doing mostly 300 yards, eventually maybe 500. (Is a 20 MOA base recommended?) But upon my readings I have read conflicting information on to get low or medium rings with a 50mm scope, so I figured I would post our exact set up and ask the experts!

The rings we looked at were the Burris 30mm Xtreme's

We will be installing butler creek flip up lens caps (anyone know what size caps for the above scope^)

If you have any other opinions in different brand bases or rings please feel free

Thanks all in advance!

Its not that simple to advise unless someone has those exact components. There is a sticky thread with formulas to assist with calculations.

The issue is some bases are taller than others, for instance I have used a Leupold MK4 1 piece (15 moa) and Warne Low rings with a Weaver 3-15x50 and it cleared the barrel. I have also used Nightforce two piece bases with the Warne Maxima low rings.

When using Warne two piece bases, I had to bump up to Warne Med rings to clear.

Also you should do some searching for feedback on the Burris Xtremes, I personally would not put them on my rifle. I have used Everything from Leupold standard to Nightforce rings and feel Warne is the best bang for the buck. Steel and made in USA. They can be a pain in the butt to set up, but have always done me right.

If you order from Optics planet I think they still give a 5% discount using "thehide" as a coupon code.

Tps is right around my price range, would the Tps base be a good choice as well? I am thinking medium rings will have to be my choice. Low might be too Low
