Have you ever used the Hensoldt ZF 4x24 Model 3 scope?
They are plentiful, can be purchased for $400-900 (unused!) on eBay, and have a field of view of more than 100 mils -- greater than the SpecterDR and S&B Short Dots at 4x. The reticle is a German #4 with 5 and 10 mil tics on the horizontal stadia for rangefinding. Did I mention light weight (10.5oz) and small size (8.8" long) with external turrets and crisp 0.25 mil clicks?
ARMS make a couple Picatinny mounts, one with thumbscrews (#5) and another with throw levers (#19) that put the optic just at the right height for an AR.
Illumination? Yes, there is a funky slide-on illumination attachment, but it's flimsy and hard to find. I wonder how this would work behind an EOTech or Aimpoint T1?
