SO how come it does not matter what training you go through that entails OC spray they always say "This will be the only time you will have to be sprayed, so suck it up and drive on"

Yet totally not the case!! Been sprayed before and in two hours will be sprayed again. Just venting before I get to enjoy the effects again.

Hope the rest of you have a better day then me! Take care..Out

Re: Here I go again...little OC in the face

Been there. I've "enjoyed" the exposure to Freeze +P and Capstun. At least the Taser doesn't require annual exposure to recert!!

It'll all be over after 30-45 minutes of decon.........

Re: Here I go again...little OC in the face

Just start thinking of the next stupid SOB that you get to spray

. GardDog, I know all about the joys of Freeze +P. I've been exposed to it, Deep Freeze, Deep Punch, Clear Out, MK9 and whatever other evil shit we have.

Re: Here I go again...little OC in the face

Even the hint of the odor of CS gas makes me cringe to this day. Too many cross contamination incidents from friendly fire at my first employer made me wary of CS. Bad mojo.

Re: Here I go again...little OC in the face

Not including cross-contamination, I'm averaging one official spraying a year. No matter what cert/recert I go to, (PTI, Def Tech, or NOTA), it's always "well <span style="font-weight: bold">WE</span> didn't spray you last time, so you're getting it again. Same goes for CS and CN

Re: Here I go again...little OC in the face

Batyote your qoute of "well WE didnt spray you last time, so your getting again" Thats the truth every time.

Glad thats over once again, now till next time I get it.

the decon is the worst time I think during the training and scenarios your focusing on that. Once you get to decan the pain sets in finally. My eyes are still red and my face feels like a sunburn but at least its over!

Re: Here I go again...little OC in the face

I think that is such a crock. I had to get tazered, OC, and pepperballed. Got a state cert, to get that cert you have to go through these fun events. Go to any other agency here in the state and they all want you to do it again, for them. The only purpose to do this is to understand and experience the effectiveness. I know there are some slow learners out there, but I remember what it all feels like. I dont need to be reminded.

Re: Here I go again...little OC in the face

desertrat I feel the same way been OC and tazed prior to this. I can tell you with 100% certainty I recall how it feels and what happens. Your eyes and face burn! It makes your vision and talking harder. Glad to hear a lot of people have had the same "your going through it again" training.

Re: Here I go again...little OC in the face

BTDT... and I can honestly say I would FAR rather get a taser hit than OC. At least w. Taser, you are up and around in seconds.

Not sure how your agency does it, but we don't just get 'sprayed' and head to decon. After getting sprayed, we have to go do an armbar takedown, several cuffing drills, make a coherent radio call and run about 100 yds to decon station.

It's good we do it because we do learn that we can function. But it's no fun at all and I do not do well recovering from OC.

Cheers,

Sirhr

The first time I got sprayed was very similar to your experience. This time we had to take someone down with a baton, and cuff drill. Make a radio transmission and go decon.

I agree with the whole doing things after exposure cause it allows you to know you can still function. Though it sucks when you get sprayed several times cause of different agency doing it.

I also agree with the Tazer of OC anyday!

Re: Here I go again...little OC in the face

Still haven't figured out why we have to get sprayed or tazed in the first place. They say it's so we will know how it feels. You tell me it hurts like hell and I'll belive you. Still haven't been shot with my duty pistol or hit with my ASP but I still get to carry them. I think they just like to watch us suffer and get it on film.
Just sayin'

Re: Here I go again...little OC in the face

Not just so we know how it feels... but so that when a defense attorney goes off on us for the horrible pain we inflicted on their client... we can enunciate our understanding of our tools and how they function.

Believe that only the emo police officers sign up for Glock training.

One tip for those who have to do the tazer hit. Take the probes, NOT the alligator clips!!!!!!

Cheers,

Sirhr

Re: Here I go again...little OC in the face

HAHA heard plenty of people say that before. Well we dont find out how it feels to be shot or hit with ASP. Kind of agree with it actually.

I understand the defense attorney thing, though on the same note who ever got sprayed was doing something where a officer or military personal had to stop a threat before a situation got worse. Where as spraying personal in training did nothing but sign up for the class. LOL guess we asked for it too huh?

Im not saying it shouldnt happen, when I posted this thread it was me venting cause didnt want to do it again. But hey Im still kicking!

Thats exactly why I understand it is necessary to have it done ONCE.

If I leave one agency, and transfer to another(within the state), since that part of the training is required for me to even have a POST cert, it is redundant to make me do it again.

Going to another agency like federal or out of state, thats a diffrent story. Not too many other agencies honor other certs. So, bare that in mind when you apply out of your area.
