I use CCI500s in my .380 loads which I also use in my 38 special and 357 loads as well. Though the higher power 550 primers are better for the more powerful 357 loads.

Thanks for the other comments. Great gun and a soft shooter as well.

Re: Here is my Ruger 77/357 Bolt Action Rifle Review

I had a 77/44 several years ago. It was my sons first real deer rifle, I think he was 9-10yo.
It shot under 2" at 100 with whatever hand load I had worked up for it.

One correction you need to make I think, when you buy a new rifle, Ruger will swap 1" rings for 30mm for no charge if they are un-opened. They did it for me a couple of times a few years ago.

For my woods walking rifle, I settled on a 18.5" Stainless Marlin chambered 357mag. 10 rounds, good peep sights avaliable, faster cycling for a lefty, shorter OAL(just a little).
I would like to play with a 77/357 just to see haw it handles.

Nice review. It appears that Ruger is going to be offering their trim 77's in a left hand version in the near future. I think I might try another one if they do that.

Is the barrel on your 357 pinned or is it threaded?? I heard they are now threading all the small 77 rifles, but their web site still shows the barrel as being pinned?? And maybe I missed it but I did not see any comments about the triggeer.

I do wish Ruger would make the rifle a bit more accurate. I have had three. A 44 magnum, and two 22 Hornet's. I did find the 44 magnum to be deer accurate to 100 yards, but I would like a rifle to be a bit more accurate than that. But the two 22 Hornet's I had were definitley not groundhog accurate to 200 yards. Tom.

Please post when you have the project complete. I am wanting to have the barrel chopped to 16.1" and threaded for a can.

I had no idea on the rings. Thanks for the tip and I will get them swapped out.

FYI - I have a Henry 357 Big Boy and this handles I lot lighter and quicker.

I will update the article with the trigger feel. The trigger feel is not a target trigger but was fairly crisp just a heay trigger pull. Not gritty. I am hoping to do some tweaks up up accuracy however I am not too worried about anything more than the 2" groups I had at 100 yards.

Yeah - I am going to see what my gunsmith can do. Hoping to set up sights and a rail like the Ruger Gunsite setup.

Re: Here is my Ruger 77/357 Bolt Action Rifle Review

Shot mine yesterday.

Accuracy wasn't so great at ~100yds from a bench & bipod with my Montana Gold 158gr flat-nose hand loads (~15.4gr H110), but it seemed great off-hand at closer distances.

Just screwing around turning big rocks into smaller rocks and disintergrating clay pigeon fragments.

It's just fun to shoot.
