United States vs. Eichman, "the Government may not prohibit the expression of an idea simply because society finds the idea itself offensive or disagreeable." That's just to attempt to prevent this from turning into a flag argument.

My curiosity in this issue comes to the point that this happened in a public school. Do public schools have the ability to hire/fire based on personal views? That's going to be the interesting side of this topic for me. (By the way, for those who inevitably won't read the article, the teacher wasn't protesting the US, he was discussing symbolism.)
