High BC bullets

Re: High BC bullets

I went to the 185 Berger VLD... I can't reacall what the BC is off hand (I'm at work), but I know it's good, and does great in my Savage.

Re: High BC bullets

If you're talking about .308s, the 155 Lapua Scenars and 155 Sierra SMK have better BCs than the 175 SMK you're currently shooting, but not by very much.

Re: High BC bullets

Actually the 175smk bc's are .475 G1 and .243 G7

JRose,

the 185 vld bc's are .549 G1 and .281 G7

And the huge increase in speed bucks the wind alot better, and has less recoil.

And travels another 175 yards before entering the transonic vlocity range.

The box said .556, but I know they recently revised that. Thanks for the info.

As for bucking the wind, I dunno b/c I've never shot 155's, but the heavies seem to do pretty well bucking the wind for me. I suspect b/c of the high BC.

Re: High BC bullets

The Berger Long Range Boat Tail has the highest BC for 175 gr. bullets that I know of. Although, I've never seen results for JLK's bullet. Sure it's nowhere near what they have listed though.

You gain in drop and wind with them over the 175 SMK due to increased velocity. Both of their BCs are lower than the 175 SMK's.

None of the lighter bullets (155-175) do very well in the wind.

308, 155 Scenar, 2950 fps., -322" drop, 94" wind (10 MPH)
308, 175 SMK, 2750 fps., -397" drop, 107" wind (10 MPH)
308, 190 Berger VLD, 2750 fps., -328" drop, 78" wind (10 MPH)
308, 208 AMAX, 2600 fps., -352" drop, 74" wind (10 MPH)

Those velocities with the 190/210s are easily obtainable with RL-17.
