Im putting together a rifle for a young man to be used in the NRA high power silhouette hunter class which has a weight limit of 9lbs with scope. The question that I'm having a hard time finding an answer to is what the common barrel contour is for such a rifle. Right now the components they have accumulated are a 700 action, HS sporter stock, and wyatt's detachable bottom metal, and leupold VX-III 6.5-20 EFR. I am curious as to whether a #4 contour will still meet the 9lb if fluted or if I will have to go to a #3. If anybody has built a similar rifle, your input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I used to build quite a few Silhouette guns. To make 9lbs with all that extra hardware (DBM, etc) you better go light and you better put wrinkles on the barrel.

Dixon, do you think a #4 at 24" with flutes will make get me close. Reason for a #4 is that Lilja has 6.5 #4's in stock and ready to ship.
