.270 Win and 270 WSM get little respect as LR cartridges because of lack of bullet choices but it sems like there is some slow progress in making higher BC bullets. I picked up a Tikka 270 WSM recently as a hunting rifle recently and have been playing with mostly monolithic bullets. I'm getting 3300 fps with a 130 gr .540 G1 bullet, which isn't bad for long range hunting.

For those who are interested here is a list of commercially available .277 bullets with G1 values greater than 0.5 listed in descending order of G1 BC values. I found these in about a 15 minute search and the list is likely to be incomplete, so feel free to add to it:

Weight in gr / type / G1 BC

170 Berger hybrid hunting .662 (1:8 twist required)

150 Accubond LR .625

140 cutting edge MTH .590 (1:9 twist required)

130 cutting edge MTH .540

145 eldx .536

150 vld Hunter .531

140 Berger classic Hunter hpbt .528

150 interlock .525

150 interbond .525

Dang, I wouldn't have guessed they had that high of BCs, especially on the interbonds.

I'm in the same boat with my .257 wby. I would LOVE a high BC match style bullet but no one makes it for the 25 cal. Berger had a VLD, but discontinued it unfortunately.

I've shot the berger 140s before. They group really well out of a Weatherby Vanguard track at least to 500. I think I was around 2750 on them with 4350.

This is awesome info. I hunt with a .270 and have had an itch to learn to reload ever since I bought a 6.5 creedmoor recently. I figured I can reload for both my 6.5 as well as my .270 since my dad and brother in law also hunt with .270. It's good to know there actually are some decent options available as far as bullet selection goes.

Don’t forget Matrix, they have some nice offerings as well.

I'm getting 3100 fps with Re 26 and 170 Berger EOL Hybrid. Shoots as flat as anything I own except maybe 28 Nosler.
