So we recorded the program at night to watch during the day before work. The subject is Baron von Stueben. "Relieved of his duties in Prussia due to rumors of homosexuality"
'There are many books on von Steuben. Most recently, Paul Lockhart, a professor at Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio, wrote "The Drillmaster of Valley Forge" as the first comprehensive biography of General von Steuben in more than 80 years.[9] Von Steuben has also been cited in other works, most notably by Randy Shilts in his book Conduct Unbecoming as an early example of a gay man in the military, but the evidence in this matter is inconclusive.[10]' -wikipedia

SO, all this is based on inconclusive evidence, and a hero of the American Revolution is now gay. Will these people ever not find a place to make minute changes to history? Are there FACTS to substantiate or merely rumor and inuendo?
Is this evidence of a Hidden Agenda within a program that is supposed to be something good?

Re: History Channel, 'America the Story of Us'

So our first DI was a real man-handler?! The original Bruno?

IMHO its just part and parcel of the real powers screwing us, feeding us more and more tidbits to keep us distracted and arguing amongst ourselves, while the real outrage goes on unfettered.......

Facts? man, facts are subject to interpretation man, like your reality is different than mine and stuff.

Didn't you even get teached are herstory ins cool? All the founders were vehement atheists, trying to make a buck over slavery, which is evidenced in our constitutional vote counting, and wait until you find out about the big war we had when Lincoln was POTUS. Then you'll hear about how Wilson saved the world by setting up the League of Nations(leading the way to the super-awesome UN), Roosevelt the US economy, McCarthy went on witchhunt making it like totally uncool to be a communist (for a short time), Kennedy us from nuclear war, while Reagan drove us to the brink of it.

I'm waiting 10-15 years to see how Iraq I, Kosovo, Iraq II, and Afghanistan are told. Should be mind-numbing! The collapse of mortgage derivative markets and subsequent general lending freezes will be a fasinating read too, as a creative writing effort.

Sexuality is subject to context. Right now it's cool to have great gay warrior kings because it's in outr news as an urgent national policy. OTOH, it's not cool, or at least not all that marketable, to make a tragic lovestory about a gay genius mathematician that hallucinates his way to complete disfunction, so A Beautiful Mind left out at least one Inconvenient Truth, which in turn had nothing to do with the beautiful mind of Big Gay Al (of South Park, geez).

Re: History Channel, 'America the Story of Us'

i saw and will not watch it again. they leave important facts and events out, and they skewed what facts they did present.
the list is as follows:
1. the militia
2. The battle for New York
3. Von Stuben, wasn't an officer from the prussian army, but was a private.
4. Their Chronology was completely out sequence of important facts.
For entertainment I guess it was okay, but for historical viewing it failed.

Re: History Channel, 'America the Story of Us'

I watch it with my family and make vocal note of the wrongful placemetn of facts. American History, War Specific, and Industrialization I am versed in. I do know what I was taught in school, and throughout my time in college and the military.
AS to the good Baron being queer, never heard that until the other day.
As to the Baron not being an officer; didn't Baron's purchase their Commisions like all other Lord's, Count's and other upper class gentlemen did back then?

That howdy dooty looking dude at the beginning and end was a little much though

I though he looked rather sweet.

That statement had no place in that show. After I heard it, I immediately had the same thought. With all the talk of repealing don't ask don't tell, I have a hard time believeing it was just a coincidence.

I enjoyed it for the most part. I could have done without Donald trump and Obama, Brokaw and a few others. Powell and the officers gave some insight, so they were welcome.

I wonder what they will do with the Civil War era, the Spanish-American War, and the World Wars...

I think this is a better source of history;

Re: History Channel, 'America the Story of Us'

All those old 'Tojo', 'Kraut', and 'Blackface' video's are priceless but had some of the best comedy ever. The American History stuff was killer and my oldest son got to see it all. Used to have a video with all that but it got messed up with sodapop one year. If I can find a DVD with that stuff it's on!
