Hog hunting

Hey y’all,

I hope this is the right place for this post. My dad and I are going to be going hog hunting at a local hunting ranch. He is going to be using his .300blk and I am using my .308. We have never hunted hogs before so my question is what would be the best round to use? For my .308 I am planning on using at least a 168 grain bullet, but not sure which brand. But I don’t know about the .300blk. So I am asking for y’all opinion.

both will adequately take hog in just about any commercial loading.

.375HH with solids would be better though.

Pretty much anything in the 308 will do the job as long as your not using a light highly frangible varmint bullet.
The 300BO not so much if you are after big boars, I have seen and heard numerous reports from reliable sources of them being shot and just trotting off and not found.
That's not to say it won't effectively kill them it's just a bit of an anemic round for that purpose.

A 12 gauge with buck shot is good, I use #4 buck when hunting out of a helo and it is hell on them

300 is very similar to what I have used the past few years with 7.62x39 caught these 2 knuckle heads running across a logging trail Sat night got some blood on the new red dot. Neither took a step 123g HP. It's been the go to rig for some time now have piled trailers full with thermal great for our ranges ~ 200 and in....average thermal kill is well under 100.

Don't know what loads he is using but if it were me I would be running a Barnes 110TTSX or something in that weight range in a bonded bullet.

Doesn't your rifle have a cheap red dot and something UTG on it?
You can't kill things with that combination.

165gr SST will destroy hogs. Big wound channels and open up better at lower velocities.
