Gunsmithing Hogue bedding question

So I have a SPS Tactical with the hogue stock. I have decided to go ahead and bed the stock and stiffen it as well.

My question is do you think I should leave a pad for the barrel or free float it completely? Keep in mind it's only a 20 inch barrel. If you think I should leave a pad what length?

I free floated mine but I thing leaving a pad about the length of the chamber couldn't hurt.

My buddy just did the same thing and left a 2 inch pad. He's getting some really good results, sub .5 moa pretty consistently from his reports. But he's a bit better shooter than me.
