Hogue stock on Rem700 SPS causing issues?

I just bought a used, in great shape Rem 700 SPS. I noticed that the barrel is not straight in the stock channel, it is a few milli meters away from the left side, while there is a bigger gap on the right side of the channel. When I get into position, I noticed the stock actually contacting the barrel on the left side. Can this issue impact the POI? and in what direction?
Is there a way I can address this issue - i.e. by removing the stock and reassembling - before looking for a replacement stock.
Thanks!

The Hogue stocks are junk, especially if it is the one with pillars, and not the full aluminum block. I have one on a PBR XP I just picked up, and the only good solution is replacement.

I have one on my sps-v it's better than the pos factory one but not by much. I actually read where they reccomend hammering the recoil lug untill it sits centered in the pocket and centers the barrel. mine sat off center and I'm not fucking it. I have couple hundred rounds through the rifle with it. it shoots ok but not great. Ordering a b&c can't wait for the upgrade. you should probably look in to the same.
