Hornady ballistic calculator shows a half moa vertical shift In zero for a 10 mph wind from 90 degrees. Also shows a half moa drop for a 270 degree wind. Is this because of spin, would it be the opposite with a left hand twist barrel?

Sorry, this probably should have went on the ballistics calculators page. And I should have searched first. Magnus effect, interesting.

It doesn’t create “lift”. Cross wind can induce yaw however. It’s also not an angular measurement, moa or mil, it’s an absolute value like inches or mm. So depending on how “close” the wind is to your muzzle, IE an open field where you can feel it, or sheltered from the wind for 10’, the effect can be greatly diminished according to the equation. The longer distance the bullet is sheltered from wind when it leaves the muzzle, the less effect it has.

David Tubb's Dynamic Targeting Reticle accounts for this effect in its wind dots

There is also a blimp design which makes use of the Magnus effect to generate lift.

It's not quite how they make it sound, but it does have an minor effect

Before you go freaking out, know I shoot in the wind more than most, the lift is there but you need 12MPH more than you zero wind to start to see it unless the terrain is helping and not all terrain that helps is visible

We routinely shoot in 25+ Miles per hour, and up to 45 MPH

We had a class in 45 MPH winds I had Mike shooting the Truing bar at 600 yards with a 6CM and the dope was identical. This was a Head wind with only .5 Mils of right to hit the plate.

Watch this, we have to relay the information because you cannot hear, we do this just about every class if not every other, this is normal out here
