168gr TAP (red box) shot pretty well in a 16.5" 700 Tactical that I owned for a while this past summer, with a 10-shot average of 2524fps which verified on steel at 900yd.

I recently picked up a Savage 10TR, 24" 5R 308. These newer Savages have pretty short throats, way shorter than Remmys.

Anyway, I took the rifle shooting today to zero it with a partial box I had from the 700, I only fired four shots (my dumbass put Signature Zee rings with 20MOA shims on a 20MOA base...), but those four rounds averaged 2784fps across my ProChrono Digital.

Cold but clear skies, full sun, chronograph at 8' (where I normally put it).

For those who have fired more than 49 rounds of 308, does this velocity seem high for a 24" barrel?

Eh every barrel is different. The main issue here is that you are on a new platform. That barrel may just be more velocity friendly AND longer, hence lots of extra speed.

I think you are in the ballpark. My 16 inch will toss 175s at 2400 fps with 43.0g varget. The same load runs about 200fps faster in my 22inch barreled rifle. This is a pretty mild load though. TAP is a good bit hotter.

Same chronograph used? Some chronos can give a wide variety of readings depending on the clouds/sun conditions and even changed based on setup inconsistencies.

Get some rounds out there and see what dope you can get. That will tell you all you need to know. I have shot a lot of rounds just based on dope before I got a decent chrono. The velocity numbers are nice, but in cases like this I just like to use them to reinforce what I already know from actual drop data and dope.
