Yep. They group good and hit hard, it's my hunting bullet. They are easy to get to shoot good.
However i am thinking about trying out some scenars.

that is my 700-1000 yard bullet. They fly straight in my GAP M40A3. I use 44.7 GR of Win 748 for 2700 FPS in a 25" barrel. I love the Hornady AMAX bullets but I also dabble with the 175 Nosler's as well with the same loads and they are very god too.

I like them. The plastic tip vs. a hollow point makes them feed a little easier in my rifle as well. They shoot identical to 175SMK for me.
edit: 42.5 varget in LC brass, 45 in win (hot load) 2.8 overall.

I run them with Hornady match brass, cci primers and 44.6grns Varget. They make it to 1k just fine. Shooting them out of a GAP SCLE rifle.

42.4 varget in lap brass with .010" jump @2630fps
My pet load, very accurate.

45.7 of IMR 4064 in win brass is giving me 2625fps out of my SPS-T and very accurate to boot.

Not yet, just put my .308 back together and could not find the 178, but the 168 a-max rocks with 8208. I've had the 178 work fine in the past, can't wait to try it with 8208. My SD with the 168 is single digits.

I have the test rounds loaded... 43.3 grns of Varget, BR2 primer Lapua brass 3x fired, oal 2.800 and 2.815 we'll see?? Shooting Sat!!

Well the verdict is in... My rifle loved the 178's... group was tighter at 2.815... From the bench, shot several groups of three .5 inch at 200 yards. Nice velocity too, 2630 average!

Did you already determine the charge weight, and you were just playing around with the seating length?

44.6grs of Varget lit by BR-2s in Lapua brass at 2.230 and the ogive pushes a 178 A-Max to 2700fps out of my 26 inch tube.

i am using them with 42.6 gr of RL15 at around 2608 sd=9 es=30.

I called Hornady, they gave me the load they had tested ( 22 inch barrel) I was looking for that magic number of 2600 + or - 50 fps... Lucky for me I hit it right away with the speed... two chrono's several groups of three to really check the vel spread... For the lenth I measured the throat and set the rounds at 2.815... Very good results!! Rifle shoots them at 100 tighter than a ticks ass!! 200 yards 1/2 inch group.. We had a good day.. No wind, nice and calm temp at 77 deg...

Oh yeah I asked them about availability of the bullets... Told them lots of guys are waiting!! They stated their making them as fast as they can....???

I am running them with decent success at mag length in an SPS-V(cut to 22") in LC-Match brass with 4064, 3031 and 4895. So far, 42.0/4064 seems to be the better recipe, followed by 41.7/4895.
