Hornady a-tip Love

I ran testing with 6.5 CM using 135 gr and 153 gr A-Tips. Both shot sub 1/2 inch groups and velocities were running similar to 140 ELDMs I usually shoot. At more then twice the cost, I personally don't feel they are worth the excessive cost. A-Tips are running .71 each and ELDM are .27.
I ran testing on the 6.0 CM using the 110 gr A-Tip and had virtually identical performance to the 108 gr ELDM. So here again, I do not think it is worth the cost.

I’m assuming you are just talking about groups?

You should see a significant performance difference with a .030 BC difference.

They are fucking excellent BUT who the heck can afford them.

Friends of mine really enjoy them but they only buy a box to just say they did.

That's my hang up with the A-tips. The price per performance ratio just isn't there, IMO.

For value, the regular jacketed bullets fit that void well. In my case, I love the Berger Hybrids for everything from 6mm to .30 cal. If you are looking for pure ballistic performance, then you can spend a bit more then the A-tips and get lathe turned/CNC solids.

I really like the idea of the A-tips, they seem like a good performing projectile. But I personally wouldn't pay the premium for the marginal ballistic advantage.

5 shots with the 110 A-Tips in my 6GT.

they short great!

Both the 230gr and 250gr A-Tips shoot wonderfully in the 300PRC.....HOWEVER, for less than 1500yds...they are just too hard on the wallet when the 225 ELD-M's do the job just as well at the shorter ranges.

I bought some 110 A-Tips before the Berger 109s were announced, so I'll be shooting those up this season before trying the 109s. Hopefully Hornady re-evaluates their marketing and pricing, and drops them into the $0.50-0.55/bullet range (and ditches the ridiculous packaging) to compete more directly with the new 109s. I thought it was funny that they went out of their way to showcase the premium packaging, wipe cloth, etc, when they're being marketed towards guys that shoot thousands of rounds a year and just want to open a box and start loading.

I want to try out the 230 and 250 A-tips in my .300NM one of these days.

I'm mostly using 230 Berger Hybrids, but also have some Warner Flatline, CE, and Badlands solids to try out as well once I find an appropriate spot to really stretch the .300NM in this state.

Also need to find some N570 to make some of these projectiles more worthwhile, Retumbo is pretty slow in my barrel.

Well put !! Lol

Maybe they could sell A-Tip Special Match...with the cloth and packaging...and A-Tip Comp for those of us that don't want another cloth...and just will accept your word that they are sequentially packaged.

I did the same thing. Bought A-Tips about a week before the 109’s were announced. Luckily only picked up 500 so I’ll be shooting them the first 2 matches and then moving to the 109’s

I wonder sometimes if Pricey items like the A-tips are just a test to see what the market will bare
they'll never get my dime. Hell I complain about the cost of the ElDs

I did shoot yesterday with my Tikka 260rem and 135gr A-TIP.
4 shot´t in to a one hole, fifth got away, nervous breakdown :D
But that 4 shot group at 100-meters from a bipod and bean bag was 0,087 MOA.
I have not been able to shoot that tight group with any bullet before.
But the price, i would not been able to shoot these all day every day.
These will be my long range bullets, maybe few time a year shoot these bullets.
Normally i stick on Lapua 123gr Scenar.
