Hornady Dies

I love the match dies. The sizers are head and shoulders nicer than Redding, and almost half the price. Some have complained that the seaters are too tall, which is certainly valid in some cartridge/press combos. If that’s the case, buy the Hornady sizer and pick your seater from somewhere else. I size in a Forster co-ax, and seat in a seperate press, so it’s not an issue for me.

Hornady crimp feature did not work in the 300blk set we got went to Lee instead.

Have a lot of hornady gear / bullets but not a fan of thier dies.

I have a co-ax also , why do you need to seat in a different press?, I'm planning on the Hornady dies for 7SAW being sold by West Texas Ordnance.
Thanks!

The Hornady seater is extremely long/tall, and barely clears the Co-Ax's yoke/handle (this is assuming you have the latest yoke. The older yokes won't work at all with the newer micrometer seating dies.

I have some Hornady dies, and they do work. I'm just not a fan, as I think they are less robust due to the design (which coincidentally makes them cheaper to produce). They're fine if you're just cranking out ammo. But (and I can say this from experience) they suck for any type of forming operations. The older design of the Redding and RCBS dies are much more robust and up to the task. Newer isn't always better.

Some people seat with an arbor press and wilson seating dies. It just makes the process faster if/when using a automatic powder measure.

My issue is in my co-ax and with the short 300 blackout seater die that comes in their "custom grade" line (not at all custom) in which they send a universal seater, the same seater for 300bo to 30-06. With the add on micrometer its still not too tall, thats not my issue, its that its too wrong.

In a co-ax that universal seater is threaded all the way up so that the lock ring is actually hanging off half a thread and it still only lets me get half a pull of the handle in. If I try to set it up so that its only hanging on by half a thread to use the full travel it will crush the shoulders. Its a really shitty design IMO. If you are going to use short calibers like blackout or grendel you better go with another brand, redding or forster are the easy buttons.

The sizing die is fine but that they try to get away with universal seaters for everything is bullshit laziness. My 270 set is fine as well but still annoying that its a stupid sloppy universal seater.

Hornady offers a four-inch body for their seating die which allows their use of a Foster-Coax press.

The problem is it costs as much as a new die.

May be an option if buying new dies.

Other than this problem, I have no complaints about Hornady dies or customer service.

I have always used RCBS die and they are really good but I started loading .223 I decided to try Hornady and really liked them. The RCBS dies are my first pick though.

I use Hornady lock rings on all dies used in the single stage press. Their design is far better than all others I've seen. I can't say as I've done anything other than to throw away everything else with their name on it.
