today I was going through some ( Hornady match ) brass that I was able to pic up this past year.now all the brass is good looking and shoot from the same rifel.I know this because I know the shooter who left the brass.

know to my question about the brass.while going through it I came across some that had crimped primers while the rest didn't.my question is when and why did Hornady start doing this?was it because of the new loads in Superformance ammo that had or still has the problem of blowing primers out.

just woundering why this has happened.I really like the idea of being able to pick up such nice brass that alot of you guys love to buy and use.I have already loaded some of the brass that wasn't crimped.just waitting for a warm day to see what happens to my load when useing Lapua brass.

Re: Hornady Match Brass ( 308 win ) crimped primes

I dunno the answer, but I had some Hornady match 155 Palma and 168 Amax, that was crimped, before they came out with Superformance Match, so I don't think that's it. A few years back in .223 I had some Hornady match that was crimped and some TAP that wasn't. Federal also crimps some primers and not others, I'd be kinda curious to know if there's any real reason. Swage the pockets on the Hornady, its great brass, IMO.

Federal crimps the FMG 175 gr labeled 7.62x51, but does not crimp the FMG 168gr labeled .308.
I would guess Hornady does the same - but that would mean the TAP would be crimped?

Re: Hornady Match Brass ( 308 win ) crimped primes

Hornady did start crimping the primers on the Superformance loads due to people having problems with primers popping but don't know if they moved it to the TAP line. I know the 168 AMAX factory load isn't crimped as I shoot alot of that in practice.

hey thanks guys for the info.I was just woundering to what the reason was.and yes I have read alot about the brass.thats why I wanted to give it a try.the same guy shoots alot of FGM and I have all so picked it up for trying out one day.

ROBO1 I was hopeing you would drop in on this one.and you gave me what I was looking for. thanks

just think of the money this one shooter will save me.I can pick up 10-20 pcs each time I go to the range.man I just might end up likeing this guy.

Rob,

The TAP is definitely crimped. I have 600 pieces from Last Wednesday's training day, it is from lot number 311XXXX.

I bought Hornady's crimp removal tool. It is easy and quick. A one time process for reloading.

By the way who makes Hornady's .308 Winchester Match brass?

5R milspec contact me if you need some.

Good to know Jack. Might pick up the tool to have it onhand for my Superformance brass.

Hornady makes their brass. I use all the once fired from my 168 AMAX practice ammo and have been very happy with it during reloading.
