While working the Hornady booth this past week I was thumbing through the handouts and noticed that Hornady has a new .308 loading coming out that would be of interest to people here. It is a new bullet which is a 178 BTHP, not AMAX, loaded to 2760fps from a 24" barrel. Also the bullet has a BC of .520. Not 100% sure when it will be on the shelves but I will be ordering some with our yearly order and when I get it in I will let you all know how it works out but keep an eye out for this new load. Might be the ticket if you don't load and want better than 2600fps out of your 175grn loadings and a better BC to boot.

Switch, I don't see the street price being that high. The 168s are around $25/box now so the new 178 BTHP shouldn't be much more. That said people are paying alot more for Federal GMM and the Hornady brass is definitely better than that if you wanted to reload it.

Not sure when the bullet itself will be out as a component but keep an eye out for it in the next few months as I am sure it will be out as soon as they can get it out.

My interest is twofold on these new rounds. My brother has found a 1956 Winchester Model 70 in 30-06 to hunt with. His plan is to add Ghost Ring sights, and possibily shorten the barrel down to 20". He is also considering a medium contour barrel at a later date with a McMillan HTG stock. Basically a slow build of a solid NorCal brush gun with the ability for longer shots to 500M.
He will buy about 200 - 500 rounds to start with, practice, then send me the emptys and a set of -06 dies etc to reload for him. I think the partition or a similiar offering from Nosler, or a 185SGK will be a good fit, but we want to mimic on reload the initial velocities and accuracy of the original loads to keep his holds the same.

For me, a serious hunting round is my desire as I have match and blasting covered. Supposedly this area offers a much better hunt than upstate NY and I am darn ready to explore that again.
