I’ll explain my question. I have been in the market for a new custom rifle, I was set to build one with a gap camo stock and Fde paint. I ran across this rifle for what I thought was a good deal. I’m thinking about just sending the rifle and stock off to be painted by Shortbus.

I haven’t shot the rifle yet, so my question is...for those that have Gap rifles, are they worth keeping or are they just another custom rifle that can be replaced?

I only have one GAP rifle, a 308 built in 2003 and it's it is just as accurate at my AI AW in 6.5 CM and my AJ Brown built FN SPR action in 6.5 CM, so I just decided to keep it but convert it to a DBM bottom metal and add a brake.

FWIW, my GAP rifle cost me far less in 2003 than it would cost to duplicate today and my AJ Brown I got a great deal that would be difficult to duplicate today also. I think buying custom rifles like this used is a very smart way to get great rifles as long as they fit what you want in a rifle.

I'm on my third GAP. Sold my first and am pissed at myself. Wish I could have it back. They are great rifles and buying used is smart decision. There are a bumch of good smiths that can deliver equal quality rifles in my opinion. You can save hundreds if not thousands on ones that are barely used. Having it painted to your liking is smart. You can upgrade bits and pieces as they wear out or if you just get the itch too. I thought about selling one to build one that better suits me. It's cheaper to just send it out and ad the features I skipped when the rifle was built.

Send some pics of the before and after product if you get it painted.

3 @ GAPs here , your not going wrong with a used hospitaller. 2 of my GAPs are painted by short bus. He does a great job, the coating is durable. I will continue to use his painting service.
