Here....
Measure the diameter of the barrel just ahead of the scope's bell and divide that number by 2. Now measure the diameter of the scope bell itself and divide that number by 2. Now measure the gap between the bottom of the scope bell and your barrel. Now add these 3 numbers together to get your sight height.

measuring the bell on a rifle with a base thats angled would seem you get an inaccurate answer. i measure from the center of the turret housing (ceneter of windage knob) down to center of action like shown in the link above.
im no expert but that took me all of about 2 seconds to decide was the correct way to do it.

I am pretty sure the only way is with a NASA approved angle cosine indicator and two micrometers that have been calibrated in the last 45 minutes at the specific altitude you are at, taking into account humidity and continental drift. I would not try it without adult supervision.

Well, being somewhat analy retentive and a retired machinist/mold maker, I measure the diameters of the scope and the bolt. After the scope is mounted, I take an inside caliper and set it to the distance from the bottom of the scope to the top of the bolt. Then I add 1/2 the diameter of the scope and 1/2 the diameter of the bolt to the distance derived with the caliper. Pretty accurate within +/- .010", or better.

Besides, most ballistic programs work only to 0.10" with this dimension.
