Rifle Scopes How do I mount a red dot on a scope?

Re: How do I mount a red dot on a scope?

You dont want the red dot directly on top of the scope cause you really have to pop your head up. The preferred way is to have it offset at 1 o'clock position. I just did on my POF 308 with the Daniel Defense 1 o'clock mount and it works perfect. I dont even have to lift my head, just rotate the rifle to left a little and i am right on. And POI is the same. Imagine your scope is 2-3" above your barrel. If you mounted a red dot directly on top of that it might be 4-5". Your POI will be way off at CQB distances.

It's for my 700. So I need one that I can mount on the scope 1" tube. Like the one yoda posted but it needs a rail on top. I saw it in one of my magazines. I would use top rail ring but I want the offset style 1 O'clock or 11 O'clock pos.

yes lol. I cant shoot 10 yards with a fixed power 10X so I need a red dot. Flame away. I need to be able to shoot from 10-600 yards

If you want to mount a miniature red dot sight (MRDS) with a Pic mount on your scope tube, then the TNVC is the only product I know of that does that.

I'm using the GG&G B-Comp ring with a Docter MRDS - it mounts directly to a flat platform with two screws, not a Pic rail. I really like this mount and wish they had a Pic rail platform version also.

I just bought an Aimpoint T-1 for another rifle and have a Daniel Defense 1 o'clock mount on order that alpha6164 showed above. I also bought a Yankee Hill angled 3-slot Pic rail mount. Primary Arms sells both of these mounts and has images of them on its website. I haven't tried them yet because they're still en route. The TNVC 3P/3PS might be good for an MRDS but I thought it was too high for a T-1 on my Nightforce compact 2.5-10x scope.

If you have a scope with a 1" tube, you can always order the 30mm tube mount and use delrin plastic inserts to reduce the diameter. Some mount makers offer the inserts, but you can also get them from Midway or Brownells for sure, and Badger Ordnance makes them too.

It's good to ask questions like this and get people to post images because it can be expensive to find the right mount and pay for a few wrong ones at the same time. Good luck!

If this is on an AR, try a Burris P.E.P.R. The picatinny ring caps are perfect for a small red dot sight light a Jpoint. The only trick is to make sure it is high enough to clear the scope turrets.
