I have a chance to pick up a Remington 700 that is supposed to have a 5R barrel. The gun is not marked in any way, so how am I to be sure? Its a stainless action/heavy barrel in .308, with an HS Precision stock. Thanks!
I'll check it in the morning. I don't remember seeing "11.25" any where, but I honestly didn't look it over that closely. I do know the SN, if that helps any...
What would be a fair price for a stainless 5r in excellent condition?

Not sure about the 11.25 twist being stamped on the tube.
As stated, look at the lands. Barrel should be 24", sendero countour, stainless and the model has come in at least three different stocks. Majority have an HS stock similar to the 700P with webbing of some color.
some specs on 5R, 24" barrel, 5 lands and grooves, should have a 11 degree crown, bead blasted stainless finish on barreled action and the HS stock should be black with green webbing.
Rifle does not say 11.25 twist on it(I just bought one). Best way to tell is to count the lands and groves, or call Remington with the gun's serial number.

Also the rifling will not appear as sharply defined as conventional rifling you may have seen in the past. To the unknowing eye it will appear to be "worn down".

.
They can also be found with grey "web" on the stock as well. Mine was one of the early models also has the stoopid J lock on the bolt.
actually ONLY the .308 is marked Milspec. The .223 and 300 Win 5R's utilize the same build & 5R barrels but are not marked Milspec as they are not Military spec'd cartridges to begin with.
I'm not being tryin to be pissy pointing this out....its been a cause of a great number of questions at our store. We are the largest supplier of 5R's in the US...If I can answer a question your welcome to call or e-mail
