I saw this statement on the Kahles product:

"A reticle placement indicator allows you to work in total darkness."

What does this mean? Reticle illumination is not necessary?

Fine
I hunted with it until 45 minutes after sundown. Watched some hogs that were invisible to the naked eye at 200 yards that I could have taken a neck shot on.

For Whitails I don't think illumination is needed if the glass is very good and you have a decently bold reticle.

So for long range fun and deer hunting it is a fantastic scope.

If hunting black hogs or bear at night under moonlight I would prefer a well done illuminated center dot reticle.

I would add that I would rather have the k312 than any other scope on the market right now for my 308.

The gun's primary role is not hunting though I want to be able to use it for hunting.

I have other dedicated hunting rifles.
