Ive wanted a good starter long range for a while, and I think I figured it out.

Rem 700 SPSV
EGW 20 moa base
Vortex Crossfire 4-16x50 mil dot
SWFA low or med rings
Some Sort of Bipod, hopefully harris
Eagle Stock Pack

How does it sound? Should I change the plan for Optics or change to a Savage 10fp?

Add a stoCk to the list and I see nothing wrong.

Mine started as an sps-v shot good with good ammo. Shoots great with hand loads.

Another thought is the 26" tube is a burden when trying to move with the rifle. Lowlight has posted several videos showing him hitting steal at 1000 with a 18-20" tube. So if your not using this as a dedicated target rig (like I do) then I would consider a model like a pss that has a shorter tube and comes with an hs precision stock. That or just buy a used hs stock but beware when they go up for sale on here they don't last long

I shoot a spsv 308 barrelled action (26") with a badger fte installed by gap. It wears weaver tactical rings and base(it's what I started with and if it ain't broke don't fix it and a 20x super sniper. She just got a t5a with the mini chassis.

I planned to replace the stock once I shot a bit, Im just hoping the scope will be alright on this rifle.

The replacement stock will probably be a new Choate a5 copy. I really like the looks of it.

savage. 10pc or 10fcp in the choate. everything else if fine. im not a remmy hater, just a savage owner. i might love the 700 if i had ever handled one for any length of time. thats a good starter scope, but you can get a SS 10x for a decent price or a better vortex. but its a decent starting package

as i see it the remmy 700 has a good history behind it being the base to some military long range rifles. it is also the base to some awesome rifles guys are building these days. but on a side note none of those rifles have a lot of remmy factory parts. if your going to build the gun more and more in the future then i think the savage and the remmy are on a equal level. its a good start to build on in the future

I started out looking for an SPSV to build and digging up everything I could find out on them. Dicks has SPSVs on sale for about $500 or somewhere around there. But a new stock or stiffening and bedding the one that comes on it is a must, in most folks' opinions. And you'll want to have the action trued and the lugs lapped by a good smith. Or you can buy a Savage FCP for a little bit more and just shoot the hell out of it.

When I added it up, an SPSV in shooting trim was going to cost about as much as a Savage FCP-K (even more if I had to have a DBM), so I just went with Savage. Could have gone either way and been happy. Just make sure you get a good SPS off the rack and allow extra time and money for stock and action work, and for a DBM if you have to have one.

If you wanted to go all out on your stock and bottom metal Manners would be the way to go if you ask me. T4 or T2 with their new DBM mini chassis system.
