How much is your job worth

Re: How much is your job worth

Lifeguarding is one of those jobs that everyone thinks are overpaid until thy need them.

I'd put money on the fact that those who said they'd do it for free couldn't swim to save there own life.....

But its become easier to tear others down instead of building yourself up

Re: How much is your job worth

I have no problem with cities paying very good salaries to the people that you depend on to save your life when all goes wrong.

You get the quality of people you pay for and if someone performs very well at their job, they should be paid very well.

Unfortunately class warfare has gotten out of hand in this country and instead of fixing the problems politicians and newspapers like to try to turn people against each other and skirt all responsibility.

Lifegards, police and firefighters making a good salary is not why CA is going broke, it's a top heavy tax code, overblown social welfare, too many administrators, paying for stuff for everybody that doesn't work (or shouldn't be there), and a lack of being willing to honestly talk about the facts.

IMHO, city, county, state employee's sacrificed pay and some perks, for security/stability, and benefits.

Around here at least that is no longer the case, most entry level public service jobs start closer to national average income level (~$40K), with superior benefits. In this area, that is aprox. $10K higher wage than their privately employed counterparts who also receive significantly less in total benefits (retirements, pensions, & insurances).

Re: How much is your job worth

im a government employee in CA... i make a wopping $16/hr... what do i do with all my extra money you ask?... i rent a room instead of own a home. i drive an $800 car instead of make monthly payments on my mercedes. and now its looking like in july ill start paying (against my will) 100% of my retirement. id rather opt out but thats not an option. so not only do i have shit for pay that im already working way out of class and way under staffed but now the retirement that was suppose to be a perk to make up for a horrible hourly wage is now working against me also.

we hired a temporary guy to do what i do now but he moved out of state. he was making $80/hr doing exactly what im doing now for $16/hr. but its ok my amazing benefits should even it out. screw the benefits give me the $80 an hour. id rather be "poor" with $80/hr and no benefits then "rich" with some benefits making $16/hr. oh and let me add that i do the same job that in any other surrounding city 5-10 guys are doing.

im not saying all government employees are in this situation because alot arent but some of us are getting the shaft.

Wow I'm thinking about a slight pay cut for beach watching, but don't expect me to rescue any of you idiots who can't swim, simple laws of nature are always in effect, and no matter how much tax dollars we throw at stupid, it cannot be fixed.
