How much jute would I need for a suite? Back of shirt, back of pants and hat. Also what do I need to sow the netting on with?

Go to walmart or some fabric store and get 3-5 yards of natural burlap and some tac con dye in brown and tan. Dye 1 yard brown and 1 yard green. That should be enough for a complete suit. Any more is too much. You need a lot of room for veg. On my last suit, I used about 2 yards of burlap. I cut it in 8"by 8" squares. I don't like the jute long as it gets caught on stuff.

its all personal preference. it seems to usually be the case that the guy with hardly any jute on his base is the most invisible.
if you use the tactical concealment materials you can literally almost eliminate the need for natural veg in all but serious stalks
that being said, shay's amounts are about what i typically end up using on a suit

i hate jute, never use it. looks completely un-natural. Tactical Concealment products like Stalk Grass, Bristle Weed and things like that are my choice for getting your suit ready, dye it if you need to. 30% covered with the store bought is good, the rest natural is my basic set ups.

Jute is just for tying vegetation in. "Veg is the edge." You don't put a ghille on and instantly become invisible. Its the use of natural vegetation that allows you to blend in with your screens and your back ground. Use a very minimal amount of jute because these days you wont even be tying veg in with jute you'll be using bungee cords wrapped around you to stuff the veg in. so a little in the veil and a little on the shoulders and upper arms will break up your outline a little. Otherwise just have good movement technique and route selection and know that you can never have too much natural veg on you.

At some point natural vegetation can become a target indicator. You don't want to look like a bush, just part of the background. That way when you have move it won't be as easily noticed.

I'm new to the "Ghillie suit" thing...so I'll ask the experts.
When making the jacket/ pant combinaiton, how are you attaching the natural veg, so the it isn't falling off as you move?
Do you add/ leave extra "tie downs" on the suit to allow for tying down the natural material or are you just sticking it in "loop holes" atttached to the suit? Are the loop hole secure enough to maintain natural veg for a lenthy period of movement?

Vegetation won't last through a long stalk. It wilts and the background changes. I prefer tying it in with the garnish or 550 cord, but I was never a sniper, so, FWIW...

I wouldn't even bother with tie downs or loops or whatever if your doing a stalk. Like someone else said natural veg doesn't last forever, plus you will be changing it out to match each area of the stalk that you'll be in. It will be a pain to keep taking the ghillie top off every time you get into a different area of vegetation and then finally when you're setting up your FFP. So the best trick is to wear bungee cords. In the veg site lay two day and cut your veg and lay it on top of the bungees, then before you are under observation lay down on the bungees and attach them in the front and you're all vegged up no tying or taking the top off.
Any loop holes or tie downs should only be used in the FFP when you've got your window and your gun and tripod are all set up and you're ready to take the shot because then you wont be moving.

^^^ sounds like a good trick HOG
veg loops and bands lend themselves especially well to things like dried leaves. other than that works just as good for me to tie veg straight to the jute or weave in materials into the net

Sorry to bring this one back from the grave but you can change out natural veg without worrying about the top. I almost stopped using any artificial material on my ghille suit. Get some bungee cords that will fit around your chest and waist. Get boot bands or rubber bands for your upper arms. Lay the bungees down and put your veg on top, then lay down and snap on the bungee. The boot bands will get your shoulders. All you have to do is change out your veil. Veg will last about 3 hours on average depending on type of plant and the weather. I usually put minimal veg during the move (just use screens) and veg up at the final firing position. If you have a good screen you can get away with just the veil or no veg.
