Re: how we skin deer in the evergreen state [graphic ]
Yeah, golf ball or a small rock if you are still in the field. Tie it around the neck and use the mechanical leverage of the truck to skin it. You gotta cut the skin on the inside of the legs too up to the center of the body. The shoulders are the hard part, after that it comes apart pretty easy.
Re: how we skin deer in the evergreen state [graphic ]
it works very well , im hoping to try it on elk this year.
i wouldnt recomend the truck for squirrels ,prolly overkill.lol
a rock or anything close to golf ball size helps the rope , get a good purchse
and no the truck pictured is not mine

I'm pretty sure it'll work on just about anything TB68.
If your wanting to keep teh hide, such as in your case of the Bison, I would definately cut down the belly and ring the legs.
On deer and elk, the skin around the neck will usually just stretch around the whole body and you just pull off one big "sock" of skin in one piece.

Two legged critter or four...if Im going wrist deep in something, I want it hairless.
Re: how we skin deer in the evergreen state [graphic ]
I have always taken large gallon or two gallon Zip lock bags into the field and bone the deer or elk out in the field....leave teh rest for the forest critters
Re: how we skin deer in the evergreen state [graphic ]
I hang them up by the back legs and skin them with my hands. Then I debone the hindquarters, take out the backstraps, cut off the front shoulders, and then cut the skin next the the hindquarters so I can get to the tenderloins. I cut them out without gutting the deer. After getting them hung up it only takes about 7 minutes. I will not gut one again unless its going to be several hours before I can clean it or if I have to drag it a long way.
Re: how we skin deer in the evergreen state [graphic ]
Better yet find a young phkr to do it for ya! I carry some younger gents with me and have learned with much enjoyment how to goad the younger crowd into skinning and working up my deer simply requires a 12 pack of PBR. Though its kinda weird the way they get all fired up about it, guess we're from different formats, I had figured out that shit was work at age 6.

I don't want the wife to thaw a package I made, and then bitch at me, "I want it CUBED!"
I am going to start taking the deer to a processor again.

a TERRIBLE shame. a few drops of blood on my fore arms is WELL WORTH getting to the tenderloins. We gut them in the field and skin and bone them back home.
