Really cool process! One thing I didn't understand is how the "platter" indexed on the handle?

It doesn't really "index". Its just clamping around the body of the knob. With a 2 axis level you get it square in X/Y and then just find the position for center. Basically the cheater version of making some ridiculous fixture that you spend 10 jerking off in a lathe to approximate the handle's mean centerline.

I'm lazy...
