I have a Howa 7/08 that I’m going to have rebarreled but can’t decide on what cartridge to go with. I’ll use the rifle for both targets and hunting. I reload so wildcats are fair game. Only stipulation is that it has to fit a short action with a standard bolt face. Was thinking a 25 Creedmoor or 308 might fill the gaps. Any suggestions? Here’s what I have already:

22LR
17HMR
204 Ruger
22 Nosler AR
223 AR
22 Creedmoor
6-06
6.5 Creedmoor
6.5 SAUM
7 SAW
7SS

Those are rifles I already have just for reference
Ah, gotcha.

There are a number of wildcats you could take a gander at.
6 dasher
6 BR
6 BRA
6 XC
6X47 Lapua
Etc.
There is a large variety of cartridges you can try out. Really depends on what you’re into and what it’s purpose will be.

If more hunting than target 243ai or 308.
The list of 6mm's above would be better if you more target than hunting.
The 25's are tough for good bullet selections but they do hunt well
25 creed 25/08 ai 25/6remai

Ya the 25’s would be good but the lack of bullet choices would make it tough. Kinda leaning towards a short barreled 308 or maybe a 30-284
