does anyone know the OLN capability of the hs precision ap209-4 (300 win) or the ap209-5 (300 ultra)??? I have been trying to reach hs but there email has been down for three days and Im working while there phone line is open. I shoot a 7mm STW with a 3.677 OLN and I don't know if I can use the 300 win mag, OR if ill be able to use the 300 ultra without modification to retain the rounds???????

Re: hs precision dm

My HS precision HTR 300 WM with their first generation bottom metal holds 3 rounds in each magazine. The maximum length of a cartridge is 3.75" to still be able to fit in the mag. I have repeatedly asked HS if they are making a higher capacity magazine and they have said no. That being said they have a generation 2 magazine that was made available to the public this year. They will no longer produce the Gen 1 bottom metal. I don't think they have any plans for larger capacity magazines there either though. The 300WM seems to lose out. The 338 magazine appears to hold more. They still make the 10 round magazines for short actions. The magazine are not interchangable between gen 1 and gen 2. I bought a gen 2 for my 308 but have yet to have it installed.

Re: hs precision dm

I have an hs 300 ultra mag I can put some of my 7mm stw shells in and they feed fine out of it. I can take some pictures of it and email them to you in a couple of weeks. Out of Country for a few.

Re: hs precision dm

thanks for the input guys, from the sounds of it the OLN of the 300 win mag should be more than a enough. Driftwood, what is the difference betweent the gen 1 and 2 mags? did they change lengths?

Re: hs precision dm

No the length of the magazine is the same. The second generation system has an attachment in front as well as the back to make them more secure. The bottom metal itself got a little lighter, it doesn't extend up into the magazine well. The release is in the same place. Its the same magazine system that has been used by the Israeli's and the FBI's HS rifles. When I ordered they only have 5 round mags available for the short action. I was told the 10 round mags should be available some time in August and they are going to make a 4 round mag that will be flush, for the short action. The larger capacity long action 7 round magazines are only available on HS rifles. There are a few other changes but the biggest ones I felt were the bottom metal and the extra attachment on the front. It was designed to eliminate many of the complaints they have recieved over the years. I was told it is a much better system. In fact I was advised to wait for it to come out originally when I first called to order last year.
Here is a picture from HS Precision, they are both short action.

The one on the left is "Gen 1" -------------------------------------- The one on the right is "Gen 2"

I am going to see if I can get my 300 WM retrofitted, then use the old system on my 30-06.
