Hey guy's couple questions for ya.
I have some Ammo from the Hunting Shack and well the recomended shell holder from RCBS is a #14 or #37 and they are both very loose to say the least, I attempted to insert a Lapua brand brass into the #37 and it will not even go in.

with this difference in base size am I running a risk of wrecking my gun or sticking brass into the chamer and not being able to extract it via the bolt? I have not fired my rifle yet and now I am a bit concerned about firing the the HSM ammo since they are forming their own brass. I fired them off a email and standing by for a response. thought I would run it past the experts in here. I have 100rds of once fired lapua brand brass and still need to get a good set of die's to load it up. cant decide on the standard RCBS or their Gold Match Dies.

Thanks for your help.

Re: HSM 338 LM Brass question

Haven't had a problem with the HSM stamped 338LM brass. I'm on the 8th and 9th reloading cycles. The rim size does seem a bit small but no issues extracting it. HSM is not forming their own brass.

In the old days, you had two patterns for brass, where the geometry of the extractor groove varied. This is why we had two different shell holders for both the Lapua and Norma brands.

If you were using one brand of brass, you needed to choose the right shell holder and vise-versa.

Now we have Jamesison, Hornady, Pivi, Lapua, Norma, RUAG and Ma & Pa Kettle, so I can't really tell you where things are.

If you do a search using 338LM + shellholder (shell holder) you might find the posts where specifics are given.

I use a Dillon and so I don't have to worry about the different SHs out there.
