What is the best bi-pod for hunting. I hunt allot of fields and open pasture. Shots can range up to 500 yards. I am looking for something as light as possible.

I use a Harris bipod but also carry shooting sticks when I need to get up higher.

What model harris. I am thinking about the swivel with notched legs. Also, should I get the 6-9" or the 9-13"?

The 9-13" is what I use for hunting. 6-9" is too close to the ground for me. Like elkslayer, I also take shooting sticks. With the longer bipods and the shooting sticks, I don't run into many situations that I can't make a clean, solid shot.

+1 on the Harris 9"-13" in the LM model which has the notched legs. Will get you off the ground enough in most situations then go to sticks.

Anyone have experience with the 7-11? Would it make that much difference over the 6-9

i built my boys' shooting rests out of camera tripods. i threaded a plate for the top and mounted a factory bag on it. you can change the bags to match the forearm of your rifle in a few seconds and in the stitting postion with your elbows on your knees, it is almost as steady as a bench. it can be used from the sitting position all the way to full standing. hunting from the ground in texas does not afford much prone shooting for us anyway but i also carry a harris on my rifle just in case.

I agree....9-13" swivel is all I use for hunting.

I agree....9-13" swivel is all I use for hunting.

I have a pair of 30" aluminum arrows with threaded inserts at the top and the nocks removed so the aluminum spike can engage the ground. I have a small cradle made of nylon webbing bolted in place with round head carriage bolts on top to keep from scratching the rifle. similar to the bi-fur-pod from varmint al. anything taller than this and I usually just grab a decent branch/walking stick when I hit the woods. something reasuuring about walking around in the hills with a good walking stick. One with a properly placed gun rest is the shiz. When i have my memory properly installed before leaving, I have a Slik monopod called a SlikStik i bought for my camera MANY moons ago and though a little heavier, it's quiet, strong, and comfy to carry. monopod is no replacement for a bi- or tripod when it comes to stability, but if used correctly it is MUCH better than offhand.
