I’ve got a brand new Thompson Precision magnum action and an AI AX CIP length chassis which pretty much opens me up to any magnum LA cartridge outside of Lapua face (Lapua and Norma).

I’ve got a Falkor 300 win so I’m thinking I might sell that and stick with my bolt guns.

So what would you guys do? I really like the 28 and 30 Nosler, but is it really worth paying the brass cost difference between those and a 7mm Rem or 300 win?

I’m hoping to hear from some guys that made the switch or have dabbled around I’m some of these magnums more than I have. What are your thoughts? Sell the Falkor and build a 300 win since I have all the reloading components anyways?

I have more than a few .300 Win Mags for hunting and long range. I wouldn't hesitate to add another. Newer bullets are making the .300 WM even more interesting.

Finding loads initially for a 7mm Dakota made me swear never to buy another uncommon caliber until I purchased QuickLOAD. My 7mm Dakota might now be my favorite caliber. Better ballistics than the .300 WM and hits almost as hard.

I have looked at the 28 and 30 Noslers and don't like being hostage to only one brand of brass.

What I am considering is the 6.5 PRC which should really be called the 6.5 Dakota due to the parent case.

Lots of good choices. Pick the bullet that will get the job done and then look up and down the horsepower scale. As we used to say in racing, "How fast do you want to go?"

    Good luck

i would vote for the 300wm. built one a few years ago. other than it being too easy to hit 1000yd targets was a great experience. still have it, but dont use it much. for shooting 1000 yds bergers were really overkill, 208 hornady bthp was my favorite. built it to go longer but lack of places here in mi to go past 1k.
