Was going through some of my notes and founds this:

    .300WM

    Powder: IMR7828-SSC
    Primer: WLRM
    Brass: Nosler
    Bullet: 220gr SMK HPBT

I have never loaded or shot this combination of components and for the life of me can't remember when or why I wrote this down. Does this load make sense?

It might have made sense in 1993. Shooting that bullet now would be super retro! I’m talking about the 220 SMK, not in the round nose shown below

Its been awhile since Ive looked at heavier 30 cal sierra options but youre right. The 200 is a higher bc and you can push it faster yet. The 220 is a dog comparatively.

    .695 between 1720 & 2000 fps

That said I bet the 220 is jump tolerant and very easy to load for

Yeah, I have no idea. I've been using H1000 and 208 ELDM's with good success, I came across the note today and it was like a 'Family Guy' episode where Stewie keeps running into future Stewie. Anyway, thanks!

I can remember making those comparisons in the mid 90’s and choosing the 200.

Craziest thing is they still make the 220, and they’re in stock at a few vendors for only $50/box.

This could be one of those epic range stories where some Fudd came up to you claiming he shoots dimes at a mile out of his ultralight 300 winny mag with 220 smk’s.

I am the only one who shoots what I have on hand apparently. Because a bullet is not the newest, greatest thing does not mean it’s worthless to me. Might not be what I purchase but if I find a thousand of them for cheap I will sure use them.
Btw, the 220 SMK was a great subsonic bullet.

Your point on the subs is a good one. Anybody who picks these up for regular price though is just dense or took some really bad advice.
