• Watch Out for Scammers!

We've now added a color code for all accounts. Orange accounts are new members, Blue are full members, and Green are Supporters. If you get a message about a sale from an orange account, make sure you pay attention before sending any money!

I get it, paying sucks, but look at it this way

For those confused about the changes to the PX, let me clarify a few things.

    1. You don't need a subscription to use the site.
    A. You only need the Subscription to start a New Post i the PX

    2. You get access to the Training Videos

    3. You can cancel anytime via your own account.
    A. If you decide to sell, sign up
    B. Once you sell, cancel it

The amount of movement in the PX is staggering. For YEARS I have been saying the PX is our biggest headache on the site. Who sold what to who and what condition was it in. He said it was New, I saw a mark.

He took 3 days to ship it when he said he shipped it the same day

I said, "I'll take it first".

We negotiated for 3 days and he made me jump through hoops and then sold it to his buddy.

    Scammers ...

At one point recently after changing some of the access from Full Member to Supporter the Reports went from a 5 a day cycle to a 25 a day cycle, the amount of work to herd the Cool Cats on the board is not easy. We are trying to decide the winners and losers of a He Said, She Said debate.

New Stuff is on the way, we have invested heavily in the website over the last year +. In fact, I poured a metric of money back into the site to try and make it a better experience*.

    * The Hack Attempts notwithstanding that have been constant since the election. We have been getting pounded by hack attempts and denial of service attacks. They have tried complaining about YOU the members to take us offline. We had to move our backup servers to a RED STATE. My guys are pulling their hair out. We just added an extra layer of security to combat the Resource Error.

The Resource Error page is a default page and not a true representation of the Site's Actual Resources. We have plenty of resources, they have set up bots to Reduce our Resources and ruin your experience. They are hitting us every hour with DDoS attacks. This is by design, and we have to throw whatever we can at them, as it's easier for them than it is for us.

You, Me, this website is on their radar, our traffic and Freedom to speak our mind is a threat to them. Hence the attempts to ruin the place and make it harder to use. Even the mainstream media has highlighted your posts several times in the last few years, even months. Daily Beast recently mentioned the site. That opens the doors for more attacks as they are saying to their Minions, this place goes against our liberal ideals so do your thing.

The amount of gear that passed through this site can not be quantified, I never took a dime from members for 20 years. I don't blow you up with pop-ups and ads, I try to keep the experience positive. I run the site in a way I would visit if I didn't own it. If I would do it for something else, I would consider it for here. I think the software and changes have reached a point, the traffic has reached a point that having it pay for itself is not too much ask. Capitalism right... I built it, you can, so now we work the job which was created around that.

Firearms are at a premium right now, stocks are low, demand is high, add $20 to your ad and I doubt anyone would notice. Unless it's a box of ammo, people would notice that increase.

I get it, but I appreciate it, and just no, with my personal changes taking place, the mindset is still full steam ahead. We are positioning ourselves for even more, and what that more comes, it will be included with supporter accounts, we won't nickel and dime down the road. We just need to cover all this work and the maintenance it requires.

Something I keep trying to tell people but nobody seems to want to listen to is:

Everybody expecting everything online to be "free" is what has allowed a couple big SJW run companies to take control of most common modern communication platforms.

Now that most common communication platforms are under the control of those handful of "socially active" SJW fanatic companies, freedom loving types are beginning to see what might be ahead as "freedom of speech" becomes extinct.

If freedom loving types want to have places to communicate freely with like minded folks, they will need to be willing to be the actual paying customers for their services and support them. If they keep wanting to be a bunch of freeloaders and prefer to be the "product" that gets sold, eventually they will find their options vanishing because those that buy the "product" will simply say they won't buy "product" unless you make sure all speech on your platform is "correct".

That's why I have a supporter subscription for as long as I'm able to afford it.

Thanks for keeping it going. Could there be a yearly PX subscription to go along with the monthly? Say $180/year vs $240 for those that want to commit for longer.

It's all over the place, we aren't doing deep dives

They block their location, change it, we just see the IP stuff and where it is coming from, we aren't tracing it back that is much harder than you release and why Ransomware works

It comes from Networks and Areas, not an individual per se, however, our guys have said, we are seeing an increase in TOR accounts which means some of this is from America

Foreign entities like China are not using TORS, I already posted a screenshot of that stuff

Hack and DDoS attacks are not usually claimed but coordinated

    Unfortunately no,

None of the options suit the gun industry ... NONE we'd have to custom build it

Remember this forum software is prebuilt to use and works seamlessly with the standard services out there, Pay Pal is number one. Because we are a FORUM they tend to leave me alone unless you create a hassle, honestly, they have been very good to the site.

Trust me, I walk on eggshells around this, but when Gun Businesses can't get Merchant Accounts to begin with, where do we go.

I would have an easier go financially if this was a Porn Site ... believe that

I hear you on you tube....they hit me with a 5 year old video of my Boykin bringing back a dead duck...... No shit we are duck hunting but suddenly that is a threat that it wasn't 5 years ago.

Anyway this is the only place I buy for the most part. A few bucks for the HMFIC is and has been expected and not a problem.

I recall seeing a post recently about a Gun Friendly paypal like app, though I doubt it integrates as well. Either way, probably worth pursuing if it gives you peace of mind. I'd gladly switch over to this newer payment platform that gives a fuck about our rights.

This site, and the people who frequent it, are bastions of liberty in general and the 2nd A in particular. Its no surprise to me they are attacking.

Keep up the good work, you happily get my meager $20 every month. My only gripe is that I cant afford the nice glass I see passing through the PX. Wont somebody spot me a ZCO?

I get it, trying to keep the freedom moving forward is a fight. I appreciate having this place, thanks Frank and crew! I have not moved up to a premium membership as I don't hardly have the time to watch the premium content. Ill get back there eventually, and would rather pay an annual than monthly. Actually not seeing the classifieds has been a good thing! out of sight out of mind!

The number of headaches running a PX the size of the Hide has got to be a nightmare. Years ago, I ran a successful forum but no where near like the Hide's size. Running the forum was bad enough but then anyone who didn't get what they thought they were getting thought I was their advocate in the transactions. I ended up having to put a disclosure in my for sale section that ALL transactions were between the buyer and the seller. The only time I would get involved was when someone would show me the ad was a scam or the buyer was trying to scam the seller. It's worth every penny you are charged for LL and the others to have to deal with the headaches.

Meh it's the price of 3 venti lattes with 4 half pumps of vanilla, soy milk, extra foam. No I don't drink that, it's a joke, Frankie says relax.
My point? This site is worth it.

    Must have been the soy...

Nothing is free in life. We’re paying for security of our community. The left is scared shitless of forums like the hide. $20 a month is like $5 used to be. Can’t buy lunch for 2 for under a $20. Keep up the good work @lowlight

I would consider a heavily discounted yearly access, thought about it but felt, who knows they are gonna use it every single month

But a discounted yearly is a worthwhile consideration

I'd be down for that. Also, pay to play has helped other sites reduce scam attempts (armslist). You're doing good things and we thank you.

When I became a supporter, there was the $200 annual supporter. Is that going away?
    It’s $20/month or $200 annual.

I’d not mean to be sharp, but all of this is discussed by Frank in multiple thread.

It wouldn't hurt my feelings if the PX went to a fee/sub $$$ PLUS a set number of forum posts. Just payment alone is easy to do. I could be some jerk completely misrepresenting what I am about to ship and I could pay the $20 bucks...but later on dispute the charge or some BS like that. It just depends on what the end goal in mind is (for you). Is it to protect the community or is it to help pay some expenses...either way this is your choice.

I rarely sell items but in the case of purchases if the seller doesn't have a history I am not that inclined to buy from them regardless if they essentially paid to advertise. Basically I am saying I personally try to proceed with caution no matter what. It would suck to buy something and it wind up being a less than honest transaction. If there was a way to implement it (not sure there is) having senior members be able to sell (which I am not one) that would be ok because the longer someone hangs around the less inclined they are to pull shenanigans.

Again it just depends on the ultimate end goal. Either way I am glad this place exists.

I'm perfectly fine with having to pay to post in the PX. I've only sold stuff once or twice, but bought probably half a dozen things or more.
I like the fact that there are no banner ads on SH, but would totally understand if they were implemented eventually. Maybe for the current commercial supporters of the site? I feel like the commercial supporters don't get much publicity for what they're paying (I'm not in a business in any way, so not complaining about anything that pertains to me)

    No

as I have mentioned there is no Manual or alternate solution without me doing it by hand. and I can't do it by hand, I am not around like I was...

Before my side work kept me in front of a computer, today my side work has me traveling every week and in the field for 12 hours a day. I cannot be managing members and companies while working the range.

The problem is nobody pays without me reminding them or chasing them... that is why we automated it. Unfortunately, PP is the only solution

We are a GUN SITE we cannot just buy a credit card service, that option does not exist for gun companies. Then you have to install it here, which has PP native. That is more work ...

There is no option but what is currently in place

What about making a new paypal with different email address?
You could link a credit card instead of a bank account if your account got locked. I believe they charge for that, not sure.

How do I find the tranning videos?

Paying only sucks when value is not provided. SH is worth my money. Rifle classes are nearly non existent, in my area, I get to grab knowledge of nearly all aspects of the rifle AND shoot the shit with some smart guys about most any topic I can think of. Also, I've picked up some smoking deals in the PX. I do much more reading than posting, especially about shooting, but that's ok.
Mr. Galli, thanks for making this site happen and maintaining it to the best of your ability.
