I Guess a Muzzle Brake Can Cause a Barrel to Elongate and Fail...

    ...on a WWII German Tiger tank. Evidently, it got really hot under continuous fire and the force exhibited on the brake caused the barrel to elongate and neck in. The second shows one that failed. Found this on Quora and thought it was pretty interesting.

    Read that the 88s were made with a three piece barrel.

    In order to save premium materials only the chamber was a high grade ordnance steel. This to prevent erosion and increase longevity of the barrel.

    The center was another section lesser grade steel capable of handling the forces it was subject to but less heat and flame the the chamber would get.

    Third section was the muzzle.

    Guessing these were failures at the transition from chamber to center.
