I am looking for a new scope will be used on a sav. md 10 fp .308. i want to shoot up to 1000. i need clear optics, my eyes arent what they use to be. i will probally be mounting on a 15 to 20 % canted base. i need good repeatabilty when turrets are moved. i am leaning toward vortex, just wondering what others have, or would suggest. i have $1000 to spend

thanks for any replies

Re: i have 1000 to spend .what scope do you suggest

bushnell tactical, sightron s3, or vortex viper

Re: i have 1000 to spend .what scope do you suggest

Vortex PST are pretty nice. You can get mil/mil or moa/moa FFP for under 1k, either 6-24 or 4-16.

Re: i have 1000 to spend .what scope do you suggest

For under 1k the PST are the way to go. I'm really, really happy with them.

Here is a video we did on the Vortex PST.

Re: i have 1000 to spend .what scope do you suggest

you better wait for the group buy on the Bushnell HDMR.

Re: i have 1000 to spend .what scope do you suggest

8-32X56 Sightron SIII
Their 6-24 power model will give you more elevation adjustment as well, should this magnification range be more your style.

Clear, bright, and they track spot on.

Re: i have 1000 to spend .what scope do you suggest

Vortex Viper is a good choice. Nikon Monarch is another option depending on what kind of reticle you want.

Re: i have 1000 to spend .what scope do you suggest

Weren't the new Weaver tactical scopes pretty highly rated? I seem to remember owner's liked the glass a tad better than most in the the under $1k category.

Did I miss something? When is this suppose to happen? And Xshot the new Weaver 3-15 kicks major ass. I personally would rather have one of those then the PST 4-16 especially because the midway coupon puts it down to $699. Glass on both seemed pretty equal though, Weaver seemed a little more robust though.

A pending group buy on the Bushnell HDMR with GAP's G2 reticle has been announced. A TENTATIVE time frame of September/October was stated in their thread, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's a bit later than that.

I'm not interested in scaring any other group buy opportunities away (poor Frank and SWFA got hammered in the 5-20x50HD buy), so I'm just letting things happen at GAP and Bushnell's pace. I'm in no rush either way, and could use more time to try and save up for one, but it's a great reticle and the HDMR is getting excellent reviews. I've got my fingers crossed that I can swing the cash for one, since I missed out on the 5-20x50HD.

Very pleased with mine, and you will have some cash left for rings

Vortex PST would be the way I would lean. I got one and could not be happier with my purchase.

Re: i have 1000 to spend .what scope do you suggest

I got an NXS 3.5-15x50 for $1100 on the "optics sale" section here a while back. If your patient some good deals on lightly used scopes can be had.

What he said... Except I'd rather have the 6-24x LRMOA. They also offer a CM/MD version and a MOA/MD version. At about $800, you'll have $200 left for base and rings.

Re: i have 1000 to spend .what scope do you suggest

currently i have a Weaver Tac 3-15 mil/mil, SWFA 5-20, and my bro-in-law's PST 6-24.

Used the heck out of the Weaver and really like it. The only slight draw back on the Weaver is the pull up to turn turrets but they are not a deciding factor, just different. The PST and SWFA just got mounted up a couple days ago. I'm really hoping for some range time sometime within the next couple weeks.

Just comparing the feel of the Weaver 3-15 vs PST 6-24 For under $1000 if you like the 3-15 mag range my personal opinion is Weaver; if you want 6-24ish mag range I can't contribute much. The PST is real nice but i have nothing to compare it to in it's price range.

Re: i have 1000 to spend .what scope do you suggest

How is the eye relief on the PST's? I have the viper and they eye relief is known to not be the greatest, did they fix that on the PST line?

Re: i have 1000 to spend .what scope do you suggest

I have both the Viper and the PST and the PST eye box is much better. The eye relief is better as I have moved my PST about 3/4 to 1 inch further up the rifle vs the Viper.

Re: i have 1000 to spend .what scope do you suggest

I really like my Weaver 3-15. Solid, repeatable, bright image, nice mil reticle, forgiving eye relief/box. It has lots of adjustment range (especially if mounted on a 20 moa rail as you intend), and its even illuminated. I personally like the way the turrets adjust, and its very easy to set zeros without tools.

for up to 1000 yds 15X should be plenty.

Re: i have 1000 to spend .what scope do you suggest

I have a PST 6-24X. If I had it to do again, I think I'd either just get a Sightron S3 or spend the money and get another Nightforce.

I would have mentioned the SWFA 5-20X, but I think that those are back up to $1500 or so. At $1000, I would have grabbed one if I was in the market for a scope.

Re: i have 1000 to spend .what scope do you suggest

Vortex PST would be a good choice. I would also be OK with grabbing a lightly-used Leupold Mark 4.

Re: i have 1000 to spend .what scope do you suggest

I just recently bought a vortex viper pst 6-24x50 second focal plane. I haven't been able to get out and shoot with it but from looking through it in my back yard it seems like it will be a fantastic scope. I also have a friend that has one and I know he loves his.

Re: i have 1000 to spend .what scope do you suggest

I personally would go with leupold mark 4 for that price. Not a Nightforce but they are a nice scope for the money.

Re: i have 1000 to spend .what scope do you suggest

I would go with a SIII 6-24, Weaver tactical, New bushnell tactical, or Mark 4. I have the viper, however, i do not think the glass is as good as the ones in my post. Also it will depend on it you want a FFP or SFP with matching turrets (mil/mil or MOA/MOA)

Re: i have 1000 to spend .what scope do you suggest

how's the stock for those VORTEX PSTs?

Re: i have 1000 to spend .what scope do you suggest

Price wise the PST is pretty feature laden. FFP, EBR reticle, matching reticle/turrets, illuminated, zero stop, and the Vortex awesome CS. The standard Viper is in no way comparable to the PST. I just upgraded my Viper to a PST and side by side the PST is better in every way. Of course it is twice the cost so it should be better. The great thing is there are so many really good scopes for under 1k available.

As far as the eyebox on the PST, its fairly long. I had to move my rear ring and scope forward to get the correct eye relief.

Re: i have 1000 to spend .what scope do you suggest

They are in stock at a lot of places. Check out Sports Optics. (Optics Specialist here on the hide) They are good guys to deal with.

Re: i have 1000 to spend .what scope do you suggest

I have the Vortex Viper PST FFP 6-24X50 and I love the scope. I have compared it with my Leupold Mark 4 and the Vortex has a clearer a brighter view at comparable magnifications. I am going to purchase another PST with the SFP reticle so I can shoot out a little farther (the reticle is a little fat at maximum magnification in the FFP design). reticle wise I like my TMR SFP reticle on my Leupold Mark 4 better. Overall I think that the SFP MOA Viper PST is a bargain at about $750.

Re: i have 1000 to spend .what scope do you suggest

I got a PST from Jay at Sport Optics last week. Great guy BTW.It replaced my Nightforce and I have not looked back. I'm no expert by any means but when both scopes were in my hand at the same time I could not see the $800 difference in their respective prices. The NF now has another home. I'm now in the market for another PST. Maybe two.

It's good on the new 6-24 model i have to play with. haven't measured but mounting the scope i would say it's close to 3.5" on 24x.

Re: i have 1000 to spend .what scope do you suggest

Which of the two has the better field of view in and out of magnification, the PST or Super Sniper?
