The 180 gr Sierra bullet struck behind the right shoulder, pierced the bucks left lung, and broke the left shoulder.
The animal could not get up, but was not dead.
That bullet does not kill an animal when it hits the lung.
A Nosler Ballistic tip does, but Nosler does not offer a fast expanding bullet with in .311".
There are no good bullet for long range. The 180 Sierra is a flat base. A boat tail would be better.

I'll take your word for it, but 75 yards is not long range. At 75, almost any decent bullet in the boiler room should have killed him outright.
