I've got a McMillan a3 sporter stock that I really love, but the barreled action is just a stocker 300wm with a sporter barrel. I'm ready to "upgrade" and am at a crossroads between "cheap" using my action and going the remage route, and ultimately buying a 700 clone action. I am not dead set on a cartridge yet but am wanting another magnum of some sorts, the plans are a mile steel shooter. I've got a 338 lapua already (chassis type gun) and honestly wouldn't mind another but i'm not sure my stock will support it. Seems silly to build a gun around the stock but the profile and ft make it a comfortable shooter for me..... any advice?

If you like the stock, keep it and build from there. That is not to say there are other stocks in existence that you might like even better. Find something comfortable and go with it.

Some decisions that you can weigh on are re-sale or money pit factor. If you build a nice rifle tailored to your tastes, just know that might not be what someone else values as high as you.

Good luck regardless!
