Hey guys. Looking for anyone with 338 norma carnal knowledge. Back in the day i spent many days sitting in my buddys gun shop watching him and Jimmy loading rounds and building rifles, working on special projects and just shooting the shit. Had no idea who Jimmy was other than he was super smart nice guy that loved all things shooting. At the time, i was helping my buddy build his new shop, installing his AC and electrical system for him and i was very happy and suprised when he gave me 2 of the finest rifles ive ever shot. A 20 tac and 338 norma that is probably pretty dam rare seeing how they got a couple prototype barrels from i think Grummon and i was gifted one. Jimmy and David got me into reloading and they helped me work up some awesome loads for those rifles, Jimmy knowing i was gonna lose anything that went in my pocket would sharpie some load dope on my hand for stuff and i would write it down once i got home. Well life being what it is and a big ass hurricane Harvey later i lost all that good info. Now that life has finally returned to normal i want to pick up reloading and shooting again and could use a little help. Also thinking about dropping them in some new chassis since theres some nice looking stuff out there these days. I can give direct contact info also if makes easier to communicate. I helped my buddy learn reloading and helped him develop load for his 338NM.
It’s a easy cartridge to deal with.
Unfortunately the bullets he was using(285ELDM) kinda took a dump.
I’m trying to talk him into 250-260 solids.
I have some Vihtavuori N170 I wanna try in it.

Im grateful for any tips i can get for sure. The last of my rounds i have left were Ram magnum-300gr SMK but really look foward to finish setting up my loading bench now that ive spent the farm replacing all my gear and get busy . I saw a post saying it pretty much loves all powders and that's what Jimmie would say so very true. Many times i sat there loading some rounds and i would ask him some undoubtably dumb ass question about different powders and he would grab something off the shelf, weigh it up, dump it in 5 casings, smile & tell me thats the magic load. Always pretty much same results, a hole in a hole at 200yd. I use the N170 in my 300RUM, great results, the only powder it likes, seems to run pretty cool.
I’d certainly try N170 in it.
Retumbo and H1000 are obviously GTG.
You can almost pick a number out of your ass and it will do well in the 338NM.
I’d focus on a great es over groups.
